Just bought a 2012 Burgman 400 abs. I was waiting for a light or some signal after the fuel gage was reading empty. None ever came and I ran empty at about 212miles. Wife had to bring me fuel. I guess there is no flashing light or light? Anyway I was happy to see that I got around 60 mpg, while drivng easy for the breakin procedure.

Hopefully you didn't damage the fuel pump. It's cooled by the gas remaining in the tank and ideally it should NOT be run dry as it can cause the pump to overheat.

The 400 has a 3.6 US Gal fuel tank. Looks like you used it all. Today I got over 64 mpg but that is near perfect conditions. I think I will keep 175 miles as a mental note as a good time to refill.
What color did you get, have any pictures?

I generally use about 180 as a nice figure. I know I can go further but 180 seems good as any.

Ah...when you get down to the red warning zone on the gauge, it means WARNING....time to get fuel. On my scooter, I'm good for about another 40 miles... but I don't try to push my luck...because I don't want to push my scooter.
It is well with my soul.

Been there done that at 5 am on the way to go fishing. Thankfully it was a down hill coast to the only gas station open at that time.

Yep, no light to warn you so keep an eye on how low the guage is going. Your fuel pump will be fine, especially as you are in break in and you are not (presumably) pushing it very hard. As has been indicated, the fuel pump does get quite hot at high speed so it's a good idea to keep some fuel in the tank all the time, but even then it should still be ok as long as you don't keep running it out of fuel. Enjoy!

At 175 to 185 miles is were I fill mine on the average. Last fill was at 199.8 miles & took 3.3 gal. That's just about as far as I want to go so I don't have to push it . Gas mileage wasn't as good as normal on that tank because of all the wind I rode in. As you ride yours longer and get use to the trip meter and fuel read out mpg you will know just how far a tank will last without having to call for help.
