Mine are somewhat like the top image but they are tapered. The image with the offset wheel looks like it would be a good product if it was durable enough.
The advantage with the hammer in extractors is that while hammering them in you will help relieve some of the tension friction hold. Just like hammering on the head of a bolt helps you to break it loose.
