Chet, Thanks for the friendly advice. Guess I was mistaken that this might be a good place to find someone interested in buying a Burgman scooter. Guess I'll look elsewhere.

It does not hurt to try but so far not too good as you can see. I have used the Craig's List to buy and sell and found it to work great. And it is FREE.
But you need to take the good with the bad.
Just do not be a dummy and believe all of the crap you get from the bad guys. No third party or shipping and only face to face. Even then do not take a few thousands dollars to meet some guy in an alley to buy his Scooter.

Bear with it a little while longer, warmer weather and TAX REFUNDS will bring interested buyers.

I personally am in the market for a 08+ 400 but you're way too far away, I think your location has a lot to do with it.

Very heavily considering your Burgman, do you have maintenance records and I'd be looking in the $3500-3700 range and would pay for shipping if you would be kind enough to help with that end (meet shipper dude, sign it away, maybe unhook battery). Let me know! You can call/text me at 757-338-3253

What you mean to say is "I am looking for an excuse for a long ride" Also, spoke to the gentleman who owns it and wants in person cash exchange, I am not willing to drive way out there for that.

That seems just a bit like he doesn't really want to sell. N

Life is easy when you build on trust. Example: You trust Rusty with the cash to buy the scooter. He buys the scooter and leaves the title open and returns it to you. You came out ahead. And Rusty enjoyed the ride. Or You trust the seller and send him out buy the scooter with a money order made out to the seller. You get the scooter for an airline ticket. The problem is you do not trust Rusty or the seller so you will pay much more to get what you want. Which is fair.

Trust doesn't grow on trees. For MY protection:
- I'd buy full coverage through Progressive for the duration of the trip.
- I'd record the full track on my GPS. Proof of no excessive speeds.
- I'd take detailed pictures of the bike and record all nicks and dings on one of those rental car type things - and have the owner witness it and sign it too. Proof I never dropped it.
- I'd ask you to sign something before I go stating you won't come after me for future troubles.
- I'd GoPro 1 - minute interval stills the whole trip. I've never seen someone drop a bike and get it up in under 1 minute.
It's a risk for me too...

The problem lies in the inherent uncertainties more than trust. For example, perhaps I went to get it and after looking it over decided that I didn't really want it (not likely but theoretically speaking). Obviously I wouldn't hand rusty almost $4000 in cash, it's not a matter of trust at that point but accountability. It's stupid for too many reasons to carry THAT much cash. So, if I made out a money order to the gentleman, flew rusty out there. I would likely hear something about waiting til the money order cleared into the bank before he signs over the title which for his sake makes sense. Ol' Rustynuts seems like a good fellow and if it were that easy I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

I reckon I am stupid, that is how I purchased my 2009 Burgman 400. It was $4500 in one hundred dollars bills paid off the loan at the bank and was handed the title. Yes a money order is the same as cash, but it requires a name. Just an idea. So you best keep looking.
A guy in Alabama, a member on the Burgman Riders site, just paid $5000 for a 2008 with about 7000 miles and he is happy.

Just an update, the scoot is now listed on a couple of local Craigslist sites for $3750.00 and there have been several callers and one looker who said he wanted it. However, I haven't seen any money yet. So, the deal is, the first person to show up with $3,700.00 cash will get it. I have been ridding it on the occasional nice day and it currently has 6,500 miles on it. I WIll post a note on here if and when it sells, but for now it is still available.

Thanks to all who offered encouragement, sold my 400 Burgman today to a young lady from Ohio. She drove down with her mother, paid cash, and merrily rode home.
