The Chain of Events....

A Tucson man died after his motorcycle crashed on the southwest side. The crash happened just after 11:00pm Friday (July 22) near Irvington and Jamaica Way.

A witness says the motorcyclist was trying to get around a large truck that was pulling a travel trailer. The witness says the motorcyclist was passing on the right hand side of the truck, when the large vehicle made a right turn.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Alfonso Coronado, 33. Investigators say he was not wearing a helmet. [of course they do not mention whether or not the lack of a helmet actually contributed to his death]

Police say alcohol and speed were involved.

Passing on the right? I was taught that you pass on the left. But, that's me, unless you are on the interstate. So sad though.

Yea, it's a good example of what a moment of 'bad judgement' can get you.

What many people forget is that a long vehicle (truck & trailer) need to crowd the L side of the lane to make R turns. Otherwise the rear wheels jump the curb, take out sign posts, and other bad things at the apex of the turn. You will often see signs on the rear of long haul trailers which say, "This vehicle makes wide turns!" Don't forget the NO-zone!
