Givi E52 or E55?

I am going to get a top case for my 650 Burgman and was wondering which you would recommend? The E55 or the E52? I like the looks of the E55 but was wondering if it was too big. Whats your thoughts? 8)

Looks are rather subjective and it's hard to "guess" what someone else's opinion on style will be without knowing them very well. For me, I think the E-55 looks OK on the 400. But then again, I'm one who usually values function over form.

It's always a good idea to check the How-to section for items like this :

I think the E55 does not look as big on the bike as the E52. Get the one you like the looks of best. They both have their owe good and not so good points.

Go to the procedure link and you'll see the gallery. Click on the first image in the gallery and the instructions are provided as text at the top. Use the 'next' link on the page to proceed to the next picture and relevant instructions. If you need more detailed instructions on pulling the rear end, other racks use the same procedure :

Did you install your top case yet? If so do you have any pictures? I'm also thinking about getting the E55 but was wondering if it is too big.

I like the pictures in your gallery. Where did you get the side air reflectors for the Burgman 650 and how much did they cost? I'd like to get a pair for my 05' Burgman 650.

That was a friend's bike. If I remember correctly, I ordered them from Dr. Suda in Japan. I do not know if they are still shipping to the US.

I also have the E55 trunk. Love it! I have purchased the admore lights. This week I hope to install them just as soon as I figure out how to remove the GIVI lighkit that came installed in the trunk. They did not last long - incredibly small wires that broke within a month. Chose the Admore lights because they also include running lights and turn signals and are suppose to be quite bright. Any help on uninstalling a light kid would be appreciated.... :D

Thanks for posting this. I am considering the E55 so it's good to know ahead of time that I should be planning on the Admore lights if I get it. I do have a concern about how the E55 would look on the 400 versus the 650, which is bigger. I usually go with function over form, but given how pretty the Burgie is, I wouldn't want install something that would detract from her good looks. Any thoughts on the matter...anyone else out there with an E55 on a 400?

Are all of the top cases in the pictures the E55? There is a red 400 Burgie pictured with a top case and it looks like the E55, but I can't tell for sure. Thanks.

While it gives the 400 a "big butt", I love having the additional storage.

Re: Givi E52 or E55?

Thanks so much, Bill, for your very informative post. It was the information and the pictures I needed to make a decision, so now I'm going to buy the E55. I'm also going to get the Givi E21 panniers with Fehling brackets. BTW, if anyone else is looking, Helmet Head is not charging shipping and their prices are within cents to a dollar to the prices of Twisted Throttle, who charge shipping. Actually, in most cases, the prices are identical. The only problem with Helmet Head is that they don't carry the brackets for the panniers, so I'll have to get it from Twisted Throttle or 2 Wheeled Touring. It's thirty bucks more at Twisted Throttle ($195.00) than at 2 Wheeled Touring, but the Fehling may be out of stock at 2WT so I may pay the difference if it will take too much time to get the Fehling in at 2WT. I need to have everything ready for the Scooting the Ozarks rally in mid September.

One more question, do you recommend getting the E55 delux version? Someone else posted that the lights are crappy, but I did call Givi and they are LED lights. The Givi guy said that there has been some problems with the LED lights, but not the wiring, and said that they are covered by warranty. I really want the liner and intended to get the AdMore lights, but I'm not sure if the liner can be bought separately.

Thanks, again, Bill. You have also been helpful in the past and I really appreciate the time you take to provide such detailed information in your posts! That top case comparison was AWESOME!

Desha

P.S I've got nothing against big butts, having a middle-aged figure myself.

I'm considering a single - pannier set up - I don't care what it looks like I don't want to fuss with the refueling

if this doable?- are there balance issues ( will keep light stuff in it )

I understand there is a Givi look alike in black only....anyone know what it is or any issues with it?

I don't know if this answers your question, but here's the information I've gotten from the forum. There is the Givi E21 pannier, and I'm not sure if they only come singly. You can get them from the distributers I mentioned in my last post on this subject. I am going to buy the pair of panniers. To view some other posts, see this link - viewtopic.php?f=47&t=39873, which covers the subject. Blackbeard and DewaltDakota both had/have the Givi E21 panniers. The only side bracket I've been able to find myself is the Fehling (which they both used), which is sold at 2 Wheeled Touring and at Twisted Throttle. At TT they are thirty dollars higher than at 2WT. I've seen Sebastian Mueller mentioned as a maker of mounts, and I think they were side mounts, but perhaps they were only for the top cases. SW-Motec, when I checked yesterday with Twisted Throttle does not make side mounts for Burgmans. Too bad, as they allow for "easy" removal of the pannier, and the bracket can be removed, according to their info, with little trouble, leaving a small amount of hardware on the bike. My take is, once the Fehling is mounted it's difficult to remove, so consider the panniers a "permanent" accessory. Be sure to check the earlier posts by blackbeard and DewaltDakota as the Fehling mounting instructions are apparently non-existent and others have posted step-by-step instructions.

I don't know what you're referring to when you state that you don't want to fuss with refueling. As the gas tank is under the "hump" on the floor board, it's way out of the way of the panniers.

I can't speak myself to balance issues. Perhaps you'll get more replies from others who have done the same thing. I think I may have seen other posts/pictures by forum members who have other panniers besides the E21 that are bigger. Check the forum or the suppliers. There are quite a few makers of hard cases. I know that TT has another brand of case that they advertise, but I didn't notice if they have panniers. You don't mention if you have a topcase. If you don't, a topcase may be just the thing, as there is only one and there shouldn't be an issue with balance. Good luck!

Desha,

If you are planning on installing the AdMore lights, then order the base E-55. The only difference between the Deluxe edition and the base model is the LED lights and liners. The liners can be bought separately and have a MSRP of $39. If the dealer you're buying the topbox from doesn't carry the liners, then you can order them direct from GiviUSA.

A second thought... since the cost of ordering base E-55 and the liners separate versus just buying the Deluxe edition isn't that much (~$20?), you could order the deluxe edition and sell the LED kit to someone who bought the E-55 without it.
