I just got back from Bike week in New Hampshire.. I spent 5 bays riding around the Laconia area and only saw two other scotters the whole time. Both were headed East on Rt 11 Near Gilford Wed afternoon. Both were Burgmans one Black one White. There were a dozen or more a week earler in the Lake George NY area. It can't be that there were only the three of us not intimidated by the Cruiser Crowd.

I wanted to ride up from RI and cruise around the area for a few hours before heading home, just to be a sm*rt*ss. I probably would have gotten the s**t kicked out of me, and it would have been a waste of a day off. So I went kayaking with the wife and a short ride locally later in the day.

Laconia like Sturges is not really for the typical Scooter type. Only the riders who have traded UP to a Burgman from their HD's usually show up for those Rallys. Personally I will show up to any bike rally as 2 wheels is 2 wheels for me and that is what I've been on since 1972. After they get finished laughing they usually have tons of questions and interest about our little scooters. I answer them all as I really don't give a Shift any more! I generally don't like crowds, and I don't like loud pipes. Rallys like that have both. I would rather spend my time riding on a beautiful road, than to park my bike with hundreds (or even thousands) of "garage queens" to just look at them, or listen to the boys play with their throttles to make noise. One is bad enough. Hundreds is a nightmare. IMHO So if that rally had been in the area, I'd be out in the opposite direction. The roads would be empty and very enjoyable! Chris

Laconia was a mess a few years back, with cops called in to break up gang fights (Hell's Angles vs some other out-of-towners). Really, who wants to deal with that?
I spent the weekend driving home from a lovely week of riding the hills around Lewisburg WV (Sport-touring.net was having their national meet-up). Sure, the scooter was on a trailer (15 hours of riding is a lot to do when under the influence of chemo), and the front fork seals were blown upon return home, but my hearing is still in-tack and the scooter can be fixed without the assistance of a board certified doctor.
I always have a supply of ear plugs on the scooter (wear them for every ride), but I don't think they would be enough to save me from the exhaust noise of bike week.
Maybe next year a scooter meet-up could be semi-organized as an alternative. It would be a very quiet affair, which I'm sure the locals would appreciate and it would give all the scooter riders another great excuse to get out and ride. Not that we need excuses...

This ☝ Even as an erstwhile HD owner....the 'Rally' stuff is too much. My Burgman is quiet and holds all my birdwatching gear under the seat.
