MC Cruise Caliper Speed Sensor not needed

Postby amfca » Fri Sep 04, 2009 23:31 23

I wanted to report that the MC Cruise control which normally comes with a front brake caliper and magnet sensor arrangement in the kit is actually not required and can be deleted from the kit when ordering

Since the MC Cruise works off of a speed pulse signal, you can use the speed pulse signal off the OEM harness just like you do if installing a SpeedoHealer unit. In working with Tony at MC Cruise, I ordered the kit without the Caliper mount sensor and saved $50 AUD

All you need to do is route the blue speed sensor wire from the MC Cruise unit to the speed pulse signal wire located in the connector under the seat near the fuse panel. Tap the white wire on the 2008 Exec.

I really enjoy the MC Cruise and it has made a big difference in my 70 mile ride each day. Just wanted to share this installation and money saving tip for those who may be considering taking the plunge as I did.

Only if you have an EXEC or is that true for the std 650 too? I agree, it's worth every dime.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not Exec specific. The speed pulse sensor unit is located on top of the rear final drive and has three wires on the 08 (red/black for power, and white for speed pulse signal) that route forward along the left frame and up under the left seat area near the cvt fuse socket area and terminate with a black 3 pin quick disconnect molded male/female plug as shown in the pictures above.

I would advise looking at the service manual wiring diagrams for the year of a 650 under consideration to confirm color codes used for the speed pulse signal wire. Again, there should be 3 wires. 2 for power +/- and 1 for signal coming off the final drive sending unit.

It would probably be more reliable since you're eliminating a mechanical adjustment (setting clearance on the front sensor to the magnets in the rotor) PLUS it could save you this headache. I have the normal rotor based sensor on my setup which has little magnet inserts in the front rotor to generate the pulses from the brake caliper mounted speed sensor. IF YOU HAVE THIS SETUP REMEMBER THIS: WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR FRONT TIRE REPLACED, ESPECIALLY IF YOU TAKE IT OFF AND TAKE IT TO A DEALER, REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE MAGNET INSERTS FROM THE FRONT ROTOR. ITS LIKELY THEY WONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE. The last time I had my front tire replaced, as I was leaving the dealership I noticed that some of the magnet inserts were gone from the brake rotor. Luckily they had come off and stuck to one of the mechanic's tools.

Now you tell me. I've had my MC Cruise for 2+ years now, and I'm a little surprised this didn't come up back then, when I did some email conversing with the Aussies back then. Oh, well.

Bill

actually the topic was raised by me and not them since I just finished installation of the speedohealer which taps into the speed pulse wire.

I had reviewed the general installation and technical operation documents before hand and realized that this type of installation was used on non burgmans. According to Tony at Mc Criuse they saw no reason that it would not work, but no one had tried it yet, and they never took the time to figure it out on the burgman.

I think i was the guiennea pig, so don't feel bad Bill.

Alan,

Good on yer, then! This should be a benefit to future Burger installations, and I'll switch over myself, if I ever lose a magnet or have some similar problem.
