I've never taken mine off so can't say for sure but looking at your picture and the ones in the service manual it looks like all five will have to come out.

Thank you, thank you very much (Elvis impersonation). Bet those 2 screws are in there really tight.

Bet your right, I probably wouldn't even attempt to take them out with just a screwdriver, I'd just go straight to the impact driver.

I also have never taken it apart. The shop manual does not specify exactly and clearly, however page 8-23 of my service manual identifies 5 holes so I am deducting that yes you must remove all five, however I would start with the 3 bolts than move on the others one at a time.

Pirmil had the same problem and did quite a nice write up for it: http://translate.google.com/translate?c ... pair=fr|en

Thanks Kory, saw that video this afternoon while searching but couldn't see if he had removed the cover. The o-ring looks fine.....think I'll try a little RTV with the o-ring tomorrow. Strange, it's a slight cold leak, seals fine when hot. In addition to the 5 bolts/screws, 3 hoses must come off.

Thanks trebor. Ron Ayer's microfiche was the 1st place I went. Thought I would order a new o-ring but decided to wait......that will be the next option if the RTV doesn't work. Thanks to all. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

All back together.....no drips, runs or errors.....zero, zip, nada. I re-used the 0-ring and applied a little VersaChem Mega Copper silicone sealer (to the o-ring). On a side note, I refilled the cooling system with Prestone 50/50 green and I swear it is running slightly cooler. Maybe (probably) my imagination but for the past 2 days now it just seems to reach 190F (t-stat) a little slower and for the most part hovers there vs the usual 195-196F I'm accustomed to seeing. Oh well, again, probably just my imagination.

Can you tell why they used two types of screw heads?

Haven't got a clue.......seems strange to me. The 2 phillips screws have the exact same thread as the 3 bolts, just shorter shanks (threaded portion).

I too run Prestone "GREEN" in mine. I used the "MIX WITH ANY COLOR" type that is not silicone based. I have run Dex-cool in th wifes Buick for 180K miles untill I found out how much it cruds things up. That stuff is junk. It took a total of 3 flushes with differnt brands of "Radiator Flush" to get all the crud out and two water flushes then refill with Prestone and its at 210K miles so far. The amount of BROWN tar like globs that came out was impressive. Some may have been "STOP LEAK" pills the factory used to comat a leaking 3.1 L intake manifold problem but it looked like Dex-Cool. YMMV, DaveJ

Since the Prestone is a lighter shade of green than the factory fill, I thought it might be hard to see the coolant level in the overflow bottle but that's a non-issue as it can easily be seen.
