Are you aware of the Burgman Riders' Forum?

Postby kuhnsmith » Thu Feb 26, 2009 12:14 12

I thought I'd pass along a link to the Burgman Riders' Forum for those of you who are new to the world of Burgman:

http://burgmanriders.com/forum/hints-ti ... pledge/#p4

I don't see that forum in any way as competition to this one. However, for those of us who seem not to be able to read enough about our scoots, it's another option. One of the features of that forum are videos that the "Smyrna Cowboy" (Dave Netherton) occasionally posts that are informative and I like Dave's sense of humor.

I also check this forum once in a while to see what Burgman owners in Poland and other European countries are up to:

http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... mania.net/

Enjoy.

I tend to agree with you on that one. When I'm done reading everything I want to read on the Burgman USA forum that I move on to Burgman riders forum and then once a day I checked my mail for the Yahoo! Groups Burgman forum there. Can't get enough of them Burgmans can you :love4:

Gary,

Yup.... I'm aware of it and many of our forum members are too by some of the comments made by members in the past.

Chet,

Steve dumped his entire forums (deleting all the posts) installing new forum software. Along with all the posts, the user database was deleted too so you'll have to re-register to log in. I've spent a lot of time on BurgmanUSA to insure that upgrades don't corrupt the database and developed code to make corrections to prior posts when there was a change in the links of posts modified by an upgrade. There's no way I want to lose much of the valuable resources in the forums here on BurgmanUSA.

Bill I have not went there today but yes. I did register and it is keeps saying NO. ERROR for my password/username. Maybe again today I will start all over and use something new. Glad it works for somebody. Steve appears to be the only one making postings, that made me wonder.

I like to use the Riders site to refer the folks back to a good site for excellent info. That can work two ways. Some excellent info can be found on the Riders site. More info the better. Glad he is updating the Rider site it needed it. I found the old one hard to navigate.

I would not use the Rider site .......because this one is lacking? :?

To be perfectly honest I find the Burgman riders forum to be more hassle than it's worth. Since they went to the new forum you have to reregister every time you use it because something screwed up in their registration system. I'm all out of e-mail addresses to use for reregistering. I can get as much information here at BurgmanUSA without all the hassles.

Yesterday after reading about their new look of the Burgman riders forum I thought I would go there and check it out. The first thing I noticed was a different look. No more deaths head for more a responsible look. In fact it looked different enough to the point that I thought it might be a different website. When I went to login my Robo form popped up offering to fill in my password and login name. However the website refused it. I tried some old standbys that I normally use, nothing worked. So I went to reregister, and after about 15 minutes of mucking around on their site I got the job accomplished. They sent me an e-mail with a temporary password, which I immediately changed to something else. Today back to square one, wouldn't take my login again. After 10 or 15 minutes of messing around with that foolishness I once again reregistered and went back to the site to login so I could change my password. However when I attempted to login I received a notification that I'd tried to many times and I was locked out of the system for non-determined amount of time. That's when I gave up on the Burgman riders forum.

I still like the Burgman Riders forum for the articles and reviews, just a different point of view.

My new login has worked just fine. I had to re-register once, and it's automatically logged me in successfully each time since, no problems.

It's good to have variety.

After reading about the Burgman Riders Forum I decided to register. There was a pass word to be e-mailed to me which I never received (no it did not go to my spam). I then sent an e-mail to them stating my problem. I received an e-mail back with a temporary pass word which Steve said should work. I tried to login and was told my user names was incorrrect. I then sent another e-mail to Steve and am waiting on a reply. Not sure it is worth the trouble.

After a month or so he may wonder where everybody is at. I used 3 different e-mail accounts and a few passwords. I even asked the smart computer what my password was and used that. He didn't even like his own password. Steve has a problem and does not know it.

One guy said he had no trouble. Maybe he is the computers cousin.

Yes It was not easy. I think the site being new makes for problems. I also learned the passwords now need to be upper and lower case or will not work. It did not matter before.

I think the site is still bad to navigate. After something is posted you cannot edit the posting. So be nice. I some times edit my posting to nothing and then hit the delete.

I'm taking the Burgman riders forum off my list of a Burgman forums. Too much of a hassle just to get logged in. I like additional info from various sources but that one just isn't worth the effort. :(

Corky I found that I was not using the right upper and lowercase letters when logging on. It makes a difference on that site. Chet_B may work but this will not chet_b.

I know it's a violation of the heavenly orders passed down from the Internet gods but I pretty much use the same login and password. When I register for a website my Robo form automatically fills in my favorite login and password. Even if I don't use the Robo form it's pretty easy to remember. The problem with the Burgman riders forum you only get four or five chances and then you're locked out for an indeterminate period of time, this has happened twice. While I do like a little variety I find everything I need here on Burgman USA with a fraction of the hassle of trying to get through on the Burgman riders forum.

When speaking of passwords, I always factor the amount of risk to determine the amount of security required. For paypal or banking, I use passwords not associated with any other account and are a random sequence of characters. The password is also changed on a regular basis. Anywhere that I used my credit card always has a unique password. For forums (except this one and MajestyUSA which I administrate), I tend to use the same password since there's not any critical information there. The most secure password I use is the one to log into the server that hosts BurgmanUSA.

There are obviously some issues with logging on to the BR Forum. I didn't have any problems for some reason. However, I do note that the site isn't very attractive at all. Just a list of posts with no graphics to speak of. I hope they can get the bugs worked out soon for those who do want to access it. I think the Smyrna Cowboy has his own site somewhere in case anyone just wants to see his videos but not mess with the BR Forum.
