I didn't know Doug and I haven't yet attended one of these Rallys, but because of his and Margaret's involvement over the years
I would like to suggest that this rally be called "The Doug Collins Renegade Rally".

2paw, that's nice of you, however, most people know that I alone did it all. Doug just supported me, he wanted nothing to do with the rally but to have a great time. And that is what he did.

Margaret, I meant no disrespect to Doug or to you, it was just a thought that crossed my mind, maybe one I should have let go on through.

I will have to do some serious begging and planning to make July 29 - Aug 2 .

July 28th is my sons birthday ... and my wife expects everyone home on their birthday(s).
I would have leave very early July 29th ... I wonder if any of the North Texas folks could join me on the ride up July 29th?

No Margaret I haven't had the pleasure of riding with Eltee. I ride alot but always seem to be going
somewhere and not just for "pleasure" unless I happen to get "lost" going to or from, and I never seem
to be able to make any of the organized rides. Although riding anytime for any reason is always a pleasure.
I am also a diabetic which makes overnight and long trips difficult because of refrigeration issues on some
medications. I may have to get a trailer for the Burgman so I can make some of the Rallys.

I have a dual voltage cooler I use when traveling in my truck. It can be plugged into the lighter socket and has an AC adapter
for when you get to a motel, but is too big to carry on the Burgman and isn't really carry on luggage for air travel either. I
may try to get one of those Polarbear Coolers, it looks pretty nice. I need to do something because I have a flying trip to make soon.

my son got a small plug in cooler at either a truckstop or wally world, that is AC/DC, and it would fit under the seat on a burgman. Just a thought.

There are lots' of us diabetics there 2paw. I have been on insulin for many years. I just lay the bottles on top of the airconditioner vents. What you don't want is for it to get hot of course. I put wet rags around the bottles in a bag with a flexible freezer pak, put it in bag or small insulated lunch bag and it is good to go. I travel down from Minnesota. :)

Travelers Inn, has refrigerators, you have to request them. They only have a few. Plus, microwave ovens.

If you contact me, and let me know all the special things you need and what room you want, I will help Gary to be sure everything is put in the right rooms and such.

One thing i noticed above in the start planning post, the DEADLINE was typed wrong..

THE ACTUAL DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING PAYMENT IN ADVANCE IS: MAY 30, 2009

I won't be staying at Traveler's Inn again. Gary ripped me off for $224. He accidentally double charged me and after calling him about it several times he has yet to reverse the charges.

Margaret,
I have to come and make a comment also.
when I was checking out, I saw something that did not sit well with me either. It seemed that a customer was in the office having a little breakfast when Gary's wife came in and turned the tv toward the desk and the customer got a little upset that she did that when he was watching the news and weather on that tv.
Well needless to say, Gary and his wife got upset at the customer and started making statements that the tv was for their viewing pleasure and not the customer and the breakfast snacks was there out of courtesy and that if the customer wanted to watch the tv they should go back to their room and if they did not like it they did not have to stay there.
I dont care for any business to talk to their customers that way and as a consumer will not put up with that type of attitude. It seems that Gary thinks that he has the only hotel in town and does not need the business, so if I make the next rally, I wont be staying there either.

Definitely not the proper way to treat a customer. Customers return when they feel their business is appreciated. I personally found Gary to be friendly and accommodating for whatever it's worth.

I too had some problems, and I have thought of moving the rally to another hotel. However, Travelers Inn is the most shaded area around and can accomidate all of us pretty well. Not all the hotels have a meeting room to do registration in, and I have not found one with all the shade and privacy in the back, off the highway.

I am up to anyone suggestions though. If you stay at another hotel, see what they can do for us?... I have pets (two) now and they ride with me. I know 1876 (sto, had there rally at) do let you have pets for an extra charge. Vending area is too small and cramped. they do have lots of parking under garage, keeps bikes out of the weather. Lots of stairs though. No shade and the people of STO did not like it as well at Travelers Inn.

There is another option for registration, One of the restraunts that approached me, could possibly cater to us and we eat there too. 1876 they did alot of things outside, the restraunt in their motel is pretty small to do awhole lot...

All in all, travelers is a good locations. Gary and I did have a talk about what I felt and things I have relayed to him of other things. He suggested me to do all the work, reservations. I Do Not Feel Right About That, I have plenty to do to organize this rally. I also, have to have someone with me everytime I speak to Gary. This way I have a witness. His wife is always his witness. And they always like to tell me how they hear people are so unhappy with me...Plus, they want more money. For things. When I told Gary, that some people were being charge higher prices, than $48.00 plus tax, they called me a lier. That everyone was charged the same price.

Travelers Inn is up for Sale. There could be new owners, but still Gary could be their manager. If I have the owners number, I would be talking to him.

Yes, I agree, we need to be treated alot better. Since we are bringing in the business to them....

Pray, that is all I can say at this time.

Love, Margaret

I will try to do the best I can to resolve any problems.

Margaret,
It makes no difference who the owner is , as long as Gary and his wife are there, I will not be staying there. I have nothing personal with Gary other than his attitude toward customers, and I dont intend for it to happen to me.

My last post of all the comments of problems encountered at this years past rally, was taken badly by STO.

I am no longer in contact with anyone from STO, and will never again be. Plus, I wish everyone else will leave them alone.

This is all I can say about this. You are your own people, and I have no control over any one person and what they say or do.... I do not try to.......

I am just tired of the fighting between the two groups.

I never even started this fued........FUED!!!!........Was not ME./../.

I just was put in this postion because the original organizer did not want do the work. Then it was dropped in my lap. After the Travelers Inn wanted to do the Rally. They had me do all the work for them, and at the end of the 2nd annual rally, they said here, you do it.

Do not get me wrong, I appreciated doing what I can to collect prizes, and having a place to meet all our friends.

But I am not the spokesperson for the GROUP. I love all you people that I have met and love to meet more.

Thank you, Love,

Hello to all from Lake Charles, La.
Sherry and I are looking forward to attending the rally for our 2nd year. We throughly enjoyed last year (our rookie year). Patrick (rode the Honda Shadow last year) and I plan to ride the bikes up there this year rather than trailering them. 630 miles one way. All depends upon how soon I have to be back for the start of school.
Met up with Shirley and John down here at a Retread Rally in October 08. We will probably be up there for a week to ride a few extra mountain routes.
We were spared damages from Gustav and Ike, maybe our luck is changing!!!!! Looking forward to enjoying fellowship with the crew.

Hello All,

Margaret, how are you fairing? I wish you well and think about you. I am planning on coming down again this year, but not just sure when I will head back home, I may need to leave on Saturday? With regard to the accomodations, I will stay at Travelers' Inn, but am not pleased with how Gary's wife acted last year. She was just plain unpleasant. I want to be in the midst of the riders though and I am fine with the rooms there. The rally is what it is all about and I can deal with the rest :)

Lot's of winter weather up here in MN this year but I love it. We have escaped the heavy snow storms for the most part and the real cold has been mixed. There has been enough to satisfy everyone's winter fun, cold enough for the ice fishers' so it has been a good winter so far. Hey, that's why I live here! As soon as possible though, Big Red 'n' me will be hitting the roads

I sure hope to see allot of familiar faces and a nice bunch of news ones at this years rally.

Steve
