My mechanic reckons "No" -- it's just Suzuki trying to make more money!

Is there any difference between this procedure, and doing an oil change on an 04 400? I really appreciated the clarity of these instructions!

Yes, the 2006 and prior year models are different. See: http://jtp.tzo.com/scooter/oilchange.pdffor those.

So, instead of you newbies paying the shop $230 you can send Jason a nice gratuity! I think he takes Paypal! I would add that you do not have to replace the 2 "O" rings every time. Every second or third time is sufficient and i think a good mechanic will confirm that. At any rate, with several previous 400's under my belt, so to speak, I've never had any probs. Third oil change now on the '08 with orig O rings still in. May just leave them in awhile longer for test purposes.

Most excellent instructions. I wish I could get the US Navy to write maintenance procedures as good as yours. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the clear instructions. I had never changed the oil on anything myself so I was a little nervous. Your instructions were spot on and I had it done in about a half hour!

This is one of the best tutorials I've ran across. In fact, I've lifted it and made a PDF file so I can print it out and take to my garage. If I can figure out how to attach a file, I'll post it. In fact, I've started compiling several of these most excellent tutorials and converting to PDF's. Man I love this site.

DIY OIL Change for my 2005 Burgman 400
I made this photo from the "How To" Burgman 400 oil change PDF dated Jul 7, 2004. The same Suzuki parts are still under $15 and that was for two filters and one set of the O-rings.
I cleaned and kept the old O-rings for spare parts. They still look good.
The drain plug on my 2005 looks like this and is located in the center and very easy to find.

Hey!.. thank you, I did it last night and everything works fine!!!... well actually I had just one problem, I removed the drain plug to fast and a lot of oil fell out of the recipient... but what the hell.... now, I had to use 1,35 lt. on my bike to get to the F line and I have my doubts about the oil that I'm using.... I use a Mobil Super S 10w-40 made in Chile, it's API SL/SJ and JASO MA, by the way the old one was very dark I put it on a transparent recipient and don't let pass any kind of light at all!!.. Is that normal???
Well.. Thanks again!

Is there a need to change a crush washer on the oil drain plug? The OM doesn't mention this, but my dealer said it should be done. Incidentally the washer on the drain plug does not come off easily.

And, yet another "thank you!"
The manual on my newly acquired K08 400 still hasn't come in (excuse: "They come from Canada.") so I was rather in a quandary about specifics. I figured I could figure out the rest, but I'm not good at conjuring torque specs without The Book. That tutorial is head, shoulders, and waist line above what will be in The Book, even when it comes. There's no question what to take off, and where it is, UNLIKE in those hand sketches and third-generation replication-error'ed black and white close-ups in The Book!

Hello, That was fantastic!! I recently had my 600 mi service. And I will be doing my future oil changes, thanks to you!
I have a 400 k8, and was wondering if there is a DIY for the transmission. I know it'w a few miles away, but.. I'd love to do it
myself.. Thanks

In his picture the arrow is pointing straight down. Thanks Jason for the great How To.
