Yes, if you look at the light pattern on the 07 B400, you'll see that the left is optimized solely for a low-beam light. The right is optimized for a high beam light, and while you can add power to the low-beam filament on that side, you don't get the same amount of light on the road as you do with the left side on low beams.

I think it might be worth it to replace the right side with the 08 reflector, just to get a reflector that was optimized for both the low and high beam, but since I don't ride with my high beams on hardly at all (too much traffic), I'd probably stop there.

Well folks, I just picked up the 08' assembly I ordered during my lunch break so hopefully I'll have time to get it mounted sometime soon once I get another hid bulb and ballast ordered. Now only what the heck to do with the other one :?

Guess what, it is now confirmed. The 08' assembly is an EXACT fit on the 07' 400. So, now the choice is up to you as to which way you want to go with the rest. I'll get photos and a tutorial up for mounting once I get back home.

Here's a link back to the diagrams for wiring after the install earlier in this thread: Link

no, just the two. The diagrams below is for the potential wiring after a headlight housing swap. The first is how you would wire a dual hi/lo hid setup. The second is a more complex filament circuit that separates each side into two different circuits. The third is pretty much a fancied filament piggy back method.

I think the 08 wireing harnes suports your #2

It's possible though I wouldn't know without seeing a wiring diagram for an 08'. But you don't have to buy a new wiring harness for this to work, set it up that way. Think I saw in one of the other headlight threads about it being $800 for a new harness so a bit pricey.

I found the wiring harness for the 07 400 at $283.29, I am sure that the 08 400 harness would not cost much more than that.

If you have the expertise to remove and route the entire wiring harness for the bike...which probably means striping off all the body panels...wouldn't it be easier to simply splice a couple wires and a relay for about $10?

It just seems far simpler. Probably the $902 includes the cost of the installation.

Interesting, looking at the k8 diagram the lamps are piggybacked for each mode. Also the circuit is now fused for 15 amps and what looks like an spdt switch but it seems like it light's both filaments at once?! I can't tell from the scan too well, how many filaments light during high mode Baret?

Cool, thanks for the verification on that. Looks like the single relay setup will be cheapest to implement. Though I have to wonder if suzuki changed the guage wiring for the lamps as well?

Bringing this back from the dead.

TechArtGuy wrote:Guess what, it is now confirmed. The 08' assembly is an EXACT fit on the 07' 400.

Hey TechArtGuy,

You're sure there's no fitment problem with the '08 left headlamp assembly in the '07 400? Everything fits and swaps over just fine? I hope so, as I just ordered one. I'm going to follow your wiring diagram and get more light on the road. While I'm at it, I'm putting in Osram +50 H4s, finding a spot for my Stebel Nautilus (If I can squeeze it inside the legshield of my little Vespa LX, there's got to be room on the B400) and I ordered a set of Motolights. It will soon be dark going to and from work, and the deer are out more now. I want to see as much as I can. I'll be going from one regular bulb to four nice bright ones soon!

Still waiting for the variator and clutch parts. Matt seems to be the only guy to carry them and can't get a delivery date on the clutch from Malossi...

Thanks for the guidance,
Steve

Greetings Steve,

No need to worry, the mounting points match up perfectly as if it was stock. Sounds like you'll have quite the setup when you're done, a stebel is on my own list but thinking a givi sheild for winter would be better. Kinda cold with that short shield I have now. But yes, the Malossi is a rather popular item, it was back ordered when I placed my own purchase so had to wait till more came in. Same thing happened when I ordered the vince as well. Import issues maybe? I dunno....

Welcome,
Sean

My guess is that Suzuki made this light assembly for overseas use only, as, if Im not mistaken, drive on the opposite side of the road, which would make sense for them but not us. I suspect they found out as they imported those, the easiest thing to do was to make both low beams work for U.S. use. Does that make sense?
