that' jibes well with the sept '03 Cycle World AN650 road test data. They measured the Burgman 650 with 1/2 tank of gas @ 616 lbs

Gross weight is just over 1,000lb; maximum load is about 393 pounds of people and stuff at maximum listed tire pressures. From what I see on this forum, people regularly flaunt the latter figure, often by a substantial margin.
Here at the Retirement Home, we regularly flaunt all sorts of limits, including, but not necessarly restricted to: number of prune juice shooters imbibed at one time, number of massage therapy sessions per week, number and duration of group hot tub sessions per week, number of visits to the Gaming Center and Dog Track on Wheeling Island, any and all local posted speed limits, number of gynecologist impersonations per week, just to give you an idea.
We're all adults; do what you are willing to take ownership for.
Gotta run!
Looking for the fountain of middle age!

Once I ran some raw numbers, here is what I came up with:
http://burgmanusa.com/gallery/AZGuy/Exec+Carrying+Capacity.TIF.htm
What it boils down to is:
All fluids = 38.1 lbs
Empty Wt = 535 lbs
Max Wt = 1014 lbs
Max Useable Load = 441 lbs
I think I left the brake fluids off the list but they likely don't amount to much more than a half-pound.
These are raw numbers. Those that actually measured their machines on professional scales tells me that Suzuki fudged somewhere.
Hey djb: was your 627lb weight measured with you off the bike? Have you added anything to the bike like radios, etc?

According to the report in Motorcycle Consumer News (May, 2004, issue), they list the 650 (regular, not Exec) as "Wet weight: 607 lbs." No mention of whether this is with a full or half tank of gas. I'm pretty sure that MCN arrives at its figures by actually weighing bikes on its actual scales. They also list the GVWR as 999lbs and, subtracting, they list the "Carrying capacity" as 392 lbs.

AZ, in all the many deacdes I've been reading the major cycle mags, manufacturer-supplied weight figues are about the most suspect, and to be taken with seeveral large grains of salt. they are so suspect as to be almost worthless as any kind of measure.
the tow big US magazines, Cycle World and Motorcyclist, have their own certified scales that they use to weigh each bike that they do a full road test on.
the only way to know how much your bike weighs, is to take to somewhere with an appropriately sized scale, and weigh it.

I would say the max added load weight would be 372 lbs. vs 441 lbs. (999-627=372). The '06 manual and VIN plate both indicate 999 lbs. GVWR.

My scoot, AN650A, born 2/07
GVWR 1014
GAWR FRONT 375
GAWR REAR 639
Suzuki's home page lists the following as dry weights;
2006 (standard and Executive models) 518
2007 standard 518
2007 Executive 535
2008 (standard and Executive models) 518
I do believe that everyone on this forum can agree that the Executive has to weigh more than the standard 650.
Windscreen motor, ABS brakes, passenger backrest, and the extra decal.
Suzuki seems to be a little fast and loose with their figures.
If Ford Motor Company made our scooters, there would be a class action lawsuit for tens of millions of dollars for something like this.
I know we have at least one lawyer on this site.
He exposed himself as such on the "helmet laws" topic.
What are our chances of pursuing litigation?

Well, "dry weights" can omit such things as gas, transmission oil, engine oil, final drive oil, fork oil, all the coolant, and the battery, so they may not be far off. Anyone want to calculate the weight of all those items?

Any Harley owners here that have actually run their bikes across some scales? Wonder how a Sportster compares to the lardy?

If you look at the manuals for just about every motorcycle, I bet even a Goldwing, the only way you could safely take a passenger is if both you and your passenger were anorexic teenagers.
Which means every average adult American who gets aboard a bike with a reasonable amount of safety gear, luggage, and passenger "grossly overweights" their ride.
If it were illegal to make false statements about allowing passengers on a motorcycle based on GVW, no motorcycle sold in the USA would have a passenger seat or footpegs/boards to avoid the liability.

Wes' weight is right on with mine.
If you add 17 more pounds to the weight Wes stated, (because mine is an Executive), you will get 650 pounds.
The figures are in this post;
HP and Weight limits that you can presently find right below this one.
Suzuki doesn't count the tupperware in their dry weight figure or any fluids.

I just have one question. How much do the fluids weigh? If you add the total weight of the fluids and the battery with fluid, how much is that? Besides the 4 gallons of gas, all the other fluids, oil-3 qts., transmission oil, drive oil, coolant, brake fluied, and battery just don't add up to 80-100 lbs extra weight does it? I've bought a few YUASA motorcycle batteries, they don't weigh anywhere near as much as a car battery. How much does 4 gallons of gasoline weigh? Well, I looked it up and it said around 6.2 lbs per gallon. Multiply that by 4=24.8 lbs. Then add the other fluids which probably don't even amount much more than 1 gallon total. So add 10 lbs max for all other fluids. The weight of a motorcycle battery comes to say 15 lbs. max. So the gas, oil, transmission oil, gear oil, coolant, brake fluid and the battery come to 50 lbs total. Even if you weigh all the plastic, someone said they don't count that in the dry weight, I think that may amount to 15 lbs at most. Something is missing here, it doesn't add up. I think the dry weight is more than they are saying cuz I believe the wet weights people are reporting. All fluids should weigh at most 50 lbs including the battery and the plastic at 15 lbs=65 lbs max.

I've never weighed my Sporty (a 2006 1200R), but the Burg 650 feels much lighter because the weight is carried much lower. I suspect the Sporty is not that much heavier, just feels heavier.

At the HD site, they show the 1200R @ 565 lbs. DRY & 585 lbs. RUNNING ORDER. Wonder how close that 585 lbs. is to actual? How do you like your HD? I've never ridden/owned one but have always been curious about the mystique.

Here's what I posted in another thread:
"The Sportster is definitely a slower-steering bike than a Burgman. It is nowhere near as nimble or smooth. But they are fun bikes to ride. Nothing fancy. No gadgetry or whiz-bang innovations. Just a simple, honest, basic motorcycle - a motor, two wheels and a place to hang on. But every time I ride mine, it reminds me of what originally turned me on about motorcycles in the first place. Makes me want to strap a bedroll and tent on the back and head across the country.
It's a totally different experience than the Burgman, that's for sure. And I love them both."

I am totally stupified by Suzuki's numbers. Hey, if they don't count the tupperware in their figures, why not leave off the seat and tires? And, if they take the tires off they wouldn't have to count the weight of the pressurized air needed to keep them round.
No doubt all the manufacturers fudge the numbers, but this 100+ pound difference between dry and wet is lunacy.
Just my $.02.

Go here and find the illusive answer you seek.
(Half way down the page).
http://www.burgman650activity.com/modul ... Html&op=B1
650 Executive
243 Kg ='s 535.7 pounds dry weight.
276 Kg ='s 608.47 running weight. (No gas)
With a full tank of gas, you can add a total of 380 pounds of passenger and cargo weight.
As far as I'm concerned, those are the numbers I will use.
