Back on the graphics grind for the burgman

Postby StreetGlo Decals » Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:55 01

Hello folks...

I'm sure you thought the graphics project was stalled, right? Gosh, there's no foolin you folks!

ANyhow, we're back on the design schedule and someone here should check over at streetglo every few days and let folks here know when it's time to look.

I really need your opinions on the new concepts we'll show. If I don't get direction from you, then we'll end up making this more generic to fit your bikes and others as well versus a burg only concept.

My son's a graphics designer and he has shown me his concepts for the bike and it really looks great. They are all very simple concepts and for me, remarkably stylish.

I'll post these at http://www.streetglo.net shortly. Follow up please.

Thanks,
Bill

I like the Tidal Canon concept except for the ones on the front up under the windshield cover. Adds something to the bike without being gaudy.

The other two are a little heavy for my taste.

I'd like to see something that follows the lines of the bike. Similar to the Italians Burgman club logo. Something that flows making the bike look like it is moving when its not. The curvey lines don't do much for me. Sorry. Hope this makes sense.

Although the 'Dual Stripe' is my favorite (yep, I'm more conservative), I'm concerned that it might be hard to apply, since I'm a pretty poor do-it-yourselfer. If the 'Speed Blocks' concept is easier to put on the bike, I'd go for that in a heartbeat.

And I agree that something for rear visibility should be available. The 'fancy rears' graphics look fine to me; I'm indifferent about the Suzuki S.

I'm delighted to know this project is back on the radar screen!

Cordially,

my take

Yeah, I'm a speed-blocks kinda guy. Trying to figure out what color to put on the bike. I want something that is nearly invisible in daylight.

Art is right -- we need to post our interest/preferences on the StreetGlo web site.

This thread seems a good one for us to post our preferences: http://streetglo.net/decal.tips.install ... ht=burgman. However, you can find other threads by using the search function and putting in the word 'Burgman' as your key word.

You have to sign up on StreetGlo's forum (much like signing up on this one) before you can post.

The StreetGlo people need a certain number of us to express positive interest before they'll start producing a kit for us.

Okay, the speedblocks are going to be our first item

Postby StreetGlo Decals » Tue Feb 13, 2007 19:10 19

I'm comfortable to produce a limited number of speedblocks graphics for the burgman as seen at http://www.streetglo.net in the forums.

It's a GO. Now the only hold up is my design team. There can't be any more progress until I get the mesauremens I need. The measurement of every straight line as per the diagram here:

http://streetglo.net/decal.tips.install ... c&start=15

I need this for each model Burgman if different model by model. I want each design team member to please measure their own bike and not use anothers measurement. As soon as I get these, I can make a template and cut it.

Thanks,

Bill

No measureents yet.

Postby StreetGlo Decals » Sat Mar 03, 2007 12:29 12

Hello folks,

Up till now, I have not received any measurements necessary to make the first run of speedblocks.

http://streetglo.net/decal.tips.install ... c&start=15

This kit needs measurements first. My design team folks -- I guess are not watching the thread any longer.

Whenever I get measurements, I'll make up the first sets. If anyone here wants to take the photos on the above link and measure each colored line as shown. I'll get the kit out in less than a week. I need it for each model please.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill:

I already posted on the streetglo site that I really like the speed blocks, and having used your products twice so far on my bike, I am ready to 'tatoo' it again with the blocks.

Please explain to me what you want measured and I'll gladly do it this evening. Height and width of the areas you show in the pics or do you need someting else?

Have ruler, will measure. :-)

I just sent in the measurements for my bike, and offered to so a decent photo spread with a co-worker who's quite the shutterbug. We'll see if this gains some traction.

speedblocks prototype test

Postby StreetGlo Decals » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:22 08

HHaynes,

Now that you have pics posted of the first set of speed blocks, I'll go ahead and work on the larger sections for the sides..... I'll have a closer look at your photos... Once we get your bike looking good, I'll put the product online for others that might want it.

The speedblocks look better than I had imagined. It's funny, somtimes the simple graphics make the best decals and these look like they will do the trick for safety.

Agreed - what I particularly like about the blocks that are on the "lower" fairing panel is that it can be seen from the side *and/or* the front. I can't wait to see what the other Speed Block applications will do for the Burgman.

For those of you that are interested (and might have missed the other thread), here's the URL to some pics in the other thread:

Put me down as another vote for the Speedblocks. So does that make enough of us to now get something in production? :) Keep us (me) informed.

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

Doctor: "Then don't to that. That'll be $50."

:D

For some reason I presumed that folks would be looking at and considering the Speed Blocks concept. I never imagined for a second that my request would have garnered criticism of my layout, let alone the rorschach-esque analysis that it looked like a skull.

:?

I only had a few small pieces to work with, and the intent was to "follow the lines" and accent the helmet in such a way that it would add visibility when I did things like turning my head for a look before changing lanes. The blocks as-provided happened to curve in the cut right as it came off the sheet, a bit more than I wanted in some places, and a bit less than desired in others. So when I wanted to make the blocks contour to the cam/pivot of my helmet, I had to use the "wet apply" method to get them to line up along the bottom edge of the surface. I'm sure that if you wanted, you could just as effectively flip over the blocks and apply them "the other way" so that they run small-to-large, but I stayed with the original design flow.

As it turns out, the "wet application" method is problematic in situations where you have a number of closely aligned pieces like the Speed Block design. Things move very freely with the soap infused water coating everything, which is great if it's all one large strip and you're trying to get it to contour to an odd shape. But in this case I had the issue of blocks moving when I was trying to position another next to it, as well as just getting blocks to sit in place after I lift my (wet) finger off of them. That's why the "front" blocks on the helmet are simply applied with their out-of-the-box spread - I was mentally exhausted getting the first set applied to the cam area, so I dry-applied the strips on the front and rear center and was done with it (and quite happy, I might add).

For what it's worth, I suggested that they add a few of the smaller speed blocks with no out-of-the-box curve to the cut, which I think would make things a bit more versatile when applying to helmets and other odd places on the bike.

I'm glad I discovered the perils of wet application for this design on my helmet instead of a very large, very visible strip on my Burgman. I would definitely advise anyone to go with the dry application method wherever they can.
