Does anyone know anything about these top cases being sold on Ebay? For $65 each including brake light they look mighty good. The "Buy It Now" number is 4592866654.

They're okay, not Givi quality, but then they cost less. I have one on my V-Strom. Lost a hinge pin within the first week I had it. Replaced the pin with a finishing nail. That was 10 months ago.

Top Boxes for bikes

Postby Martin Maxwell » Thu Dec 01, 2005 3:25 03

Check THIS guy out: http://stores.ebay.com/CUSTOM-CYCLE-GEAR-INC.

I bought one from him (the VIP with the spoiler with lights as well as tail and turn sigs.) It was $115. Its not QUITE big enough to put a helmet in, but I like it. It serves its purpose well of givine me additional room to put stuff without having to PAY Givi prices. He has a couple other Givi lookalikes there. No problems dealing with the dealer, everything came when promised and how promised. Only problem with the case was the latch stopped working but a little twist of the spring and it was good as new! Only took about 1 min. to fix.

Again not Givi quality, but not Givi PRICE either!

Link doesn't work

I don't know why, but that link I posted doesn't work! I copied it right from the URL line in the browser too! Just go to Ebay and search for the store named CUSTOM CYCLE GEAR INC. I found it that way too.

Hello Jim!

I have had my Givi Maxia E52 for a week now and I LOVE it!!! I wish I didn't wait so long before getting one. I had considered other cases such as Shad, VIP, and other aftermarket brands on Ebay but finally decided on the Givi. I did not want to spend a lot of $$$ so the Givi was my last choice. I researched for a solid 3-4 months online, at dealers, on the phone and in person on the street with fellow bikers. Everytime I saw the Givi it looked and felt the best.
Bottom line is if you buy cheap products you get cheap products!!! I would highly reccomend spending the extra $$$ for a quality product like the Give E53 Maxia.....or any other Givi case if you dont need that much room. Yes, I spent around $200 more than what I wanted to but now that I have it, I am extremy happy. I doubt I would be as happy with a cheaper topcase.
BTW: I reccomend dealing with Howard from http://www.sporttour.com. He is extremely patient, knowledgable and accomodating as well as the most reasonable Givi dealer I found. Several other members on here have purchased from him as well and were all pleased....as I am!!!
I hope you are happy with whatever you decide on getting!!!
I am a proud "Burgy" owner and I would welcome any feedback or suggestions that might be helpful!!! Feel free to contact me for chat or local rides!!!

Jiekal vs Givi

Postby jim4065 » Mon Mar 20, 2006 20:27 20

Well, I bought the Jiekal case with a brake light assembly. Actually not a bad looking case - has a glossy black finish. The light was not mounted and was shipped in bubble wrap inside the case. The mounting "base" is two pieces of slotted channel, chrome plated. The instructions for mounting the light were minimal, at best. Took about a week of staring at it from different angles to realize the channels MUST be mounted on an existing luggage rack or whatever. The job was beyond me - I work with wood. Finally gave up and bought a Givi base via eBay and a lighted E52 from RL Motorcycles. Finished installing weekend before last and it's beautiful.
The upshot is that I have a Jiekal box that I don't need. Don't really know how to evaluate the "value" between the two manufacturers, but the Givi is very well designed with barely adequate instructions. The Jiekal has less quality and no instructions to speak of. The Givi and base cost about $400 including freight, while the Jiekal was about $90 including freight.
Gonna try to sell the Jiekal for $35 plus freight and pay $5 to Green Goose for keeping this great forum going.
Instead of selling the Jiekal I might make a WOOD platform to span the passenger seat and mount it there. We're talking storage now. Hmmm - mount it backwards, put in a drain hose and fill it with beer and ice??

I bought an E450 monolock case with backrest and light kit. I love it. I especially love the fact that it easily can be removed. I bought it quickly from a catalog without looking in here. It seems everyone is going for the E52 Monokey cases. I counld not find a solid definition on the Givi site stating the difference between the monokey and monolock cases other than the monokey can be used as side bags in some applications.

The MonoKey series is the top of the line series with a more substantial mount, more features, and better quality construction. MonoKey mounts are sold seperately.

The MonoLock cases are generally a smaller and lighter top case with a smaller mount and lock up. Consider MonoLock cases for "light duty" applications. MonoLock cases are sold with a universal mount included.

The burgman mount is the same for the monolock and monokey case. The E450 is massive and swallows two full face helmets. I am very happy with it. It is definitely not a small box. I will have to post some pics.

Just Curious, I was looking for the weight capacity on the E52 and can't find that info. I know they post is in the manual.
