members sort - State - Country

it would be logical and helpful to have the Location field of members information with individual fields for country, state and city so they could be sorted by country, state or city. State (or provence or similar) would allow one to find other members in the local areas!

That is a very interesting observation we have for some time encouraged folks to put their location in a set format (Country(if outside of the US) /State/City or Town).

I note you have not completed your location in the user profile.

In the USA we use the city, state, country. Blountville, TN. What would be a real dream world is if in the a Introduction Forum a person would spell out the name of their state. New york and than a person could do a search in that forum, the search will not work for just a few letters.

It is a simple matter to go though the 268 pages of members and note all of the members from Hawaii. IF the people would indicate where in the world they are located.

I know how the convention runs in the states but in terms of sorting on membership details in an international forum only my method would work properly.

However it met too much resistance and to be honest it is a lost cause now.

StingrayHawaii, I can only assume you are from Hawaii by your signature. I find it ironic that you ask for someone to go to all the work and make a special page to list the information you fail to include in your own user profile. Please don't take this the wrong way as I do not mean this as a put down or anything. Just that if the info. is put in where the site asks for it anyone can find people near them.

The User Profile is where the info on the Members page comes from. One of my pet-peeves is people who skip that info.

It makes a difference in recommending solutions to gear and tires for instance. Inviting others for a ride. Offering to help someone who has a maintenance problem.

I reckon some of the members do not care for what ever reason to add their location to their profile. I looked and see String Ray last visited the site on Monday June 11 , 2012. He has been a member since 2009. And yet he wants to know where i live. Sure confuses me.

We had a membership map at one time but so few used it that it was decided to drop it.

When you view the list of members half do not add a location. Rather hard to do much with the wealth of information.

I think some of the other members mis-understood my comments about sorting on the location, It was so I could find other Burgman folks near me for possible rides and interests.

Having location information is not very helpful in a data base unless it is in a standard format (city, state, country) and can be sorted by each or the combined fields in country, state, city order.

I do have my location information in the profile and I am not in Hawaii, but the north georgia mountains which is a great place to ride my Burgmans!

right now sorting on location does not provide much help finding nearby members. I would be happy just to have the state in the location field. That way when you sort by location all the members in a state would sort together.

Site is really a great site and I was just suggesting something to improve it, not wanting to pry into everyone's detailed address!

As far as I can remember my location information has always reflected Ellijay Ga, just added the USA recently based on some of the comments on the posts!

still would like to see some way to sort the location information so it would be useful to the members!

Well if you put the state first and we could convince everyone to do the same you would get your wish.

You can go through the 271 pages that have 50 names per page and make a note of the folks that gave a location and make your own list. That is over 13,553 names. You will need to update the list when a new page is added to the list of members. I made a list of the members located in Tennessee. Not an easy task.

To locate someone now you need to know about when they joined the site and what their username is. The biggest problem is 1/2 of the members do not put a location in their profile. The list is not user friendly.
