Aprilia SRV 850 ?

Postby captainfish » Sun Feb 05, 2012 1:11 01

Hello everyone. I was hoping that someone had some ideas on the capabilities\capacities of this new scooter from Aprilia
http://www.cycleworld.com/2011/10/27/aprilia-srv-850-first-look/

It looks like a "automatic" touring bike instead of the traditional scooter design like Burgies.

I've looked around and can't find a single mention of how much space it has. But to me, it can't have all that much with the engine being part of the bike (like a cycle) and very little plastic around the wheels (like a cycle again).

However, I am jazzed about someone finally putting some big engines out there.

No ABS, no storage, no step through and a chain. No thanks!

Claimed top speed is more than 124 mph, while 0-60-mph acceleration takes just 5 seconds..., a Brembo front-brake system—four-piston calipers and 300mm rotors—... at 518 pounds

Now THAT's a sport scooter! TMax has nothing on that!

As to the stepthrough, storage and the chain drive- none of these are requirements for a performance based scoot. Chain drive = best performance (at the expense of maintenance) storage is easily remidied w/ luggage, stepthrough ... well you've got me there- but it's not much worse than the Tmax, and this setup is still a scooter riding position and has some step area cutaway and the forward riding footwell - niether that you get with the automatic transmission MANA bike...which by the way has an ABS option- so give it time and it may later be available for this model.

While this isn't for everyone and will no doubt cost a fortune- is one step closer to getting people to look at scooters that may previously never have... in a few years time, I could see myself migrating to something like this on the used market. Motorcycle handling but scooter riding position? Sign me up.

Another review

Thanks for that link! Great article: Room for a helmet (tight squeeze for some models though) and ABS will be coming but not on this 1st round for sale.

The bike sounds amazing- and priced under that of the BMWs and the new 530 Tmax- this is one to watch...hopefully Aprilia can get out from that dark cloud of poor parts and service support in countries like the USA.
