Bestem Topcase

Postby MrWick » Wed Jun 27, 2012 18:07 18

Anyone have a Bestem model 2012 installed on their 650's. I would like a good topcase but shying away from the Givi because of the price. The Bestem topcase looks decent in their pictures but couldn't find any reviews on their website. I am looking at getting a black one as I have the dark gray 2012 so the black will sorta blend in with the seat. The model 2012 is about the size I want plan on putting a radio in there eventually, had a radio in the underseat storage on my 04 but would like to keep that space open for other stuff. If you havee any pictures of a Bestem let me know. Thanks for any opinions on this topcase.

the 2012 is a nice box but I no longer recommend it to people, the 929 is a much better box for the same price.

You might as well skip it and either get a 929 or the 2012's bigger brother the 2013 which is sold by Mutazu ad the DM-100.

I was curious about their painted white one and they sent me this picture of one:

the 2013 / DM100 is bigger than the 929 but it uses the same base plate which is much better choice than the one used by the 2012.

The DM100 costs a bit more than the 2012 or the 929, but I think it is well worth it.

good luck...

I bought a 2012 trunk just after I bought my scoot... I think about august 2011... I am going to have to replace it as the rear edge clear coat is starting to raise up a bit... the box is still waterproof but it just looks wierd...

A friend's Bestem 2012 silver top started changing color to a green tint. We wet sanded and sprayed it with automotive bumper paint and then sprayed several clear coats. This was done about 6 months ago and it still looks great. We were able to get a very close color match at an automotive paint store. Total cost was about $25 and less than 2 hours labor time. A local body shop wanted $250 to do the job.

I just edited this post after I noticed that you have a blue 03. That is what I have. My Bestem 2012 was painted about 3 years ago. There is a Ford blue color from about 10 years ago that is an excellent color match.

I am leaning toward the 2012 as the size of the 929 looks way to big. I am only going to use it for a radio,I am looking at a marine radio with a wired remote so I can control the radio from the front of the scooter. I have a Shark 250w but didn't work out the way I wanted. I will use the 2 Shark speakers I have and get 2 more for the rear. Not real sure how those speakers will work but at least they are waterproof.

I installed the Blcack gloss 2012 on my Grey 2011 exec.
I bought a rack off or ebay - to fit the mounting plate to and the install was pretty straight forward

My only complaint is that i have tried adding extra padding and others to stop the case from rattling - but the case seems to be "loose" on the mountung plate - it has never come off or anything close it just seems to rattle over rough road

But a good size and the rear brake lighti think is invaluable.

Is that the mounting plate that comes with the case? I will have to adapt that plate to fit the passenger backrest mounting holes. I don't need it to be removable so I will try for a solid way to mount the case to the bracket which might cure the rattle problem.

Bestem is manufactured by a company in China called ADLO (http://www.adlo.net). I have four 981 model top boxes on 3 of my bikes and one 2012. The 2012 uses a different base as others have pointed out, and it's smaller at around 37" volume. I like the integrated brake light, though miss the handle the 981 has. I use my top boxes like suitcases when on trips. The 2012 is okay, the latch takes a little more fiddling technique when closing, but may yet go with the 929 for increased size and integrated light. All the top boxes from ADLO are around US$20 here in mainland China, hence why I have one for each bike in my garage. All the ADLO top boxes I have had rattle a little, so I always apply two bungy/stretchies up and over to make the connection more snug. Also for peace of mind, as I did have one 981 box come off the base plate a few years ago when riding my Dragstar Classic 1100 on one week long trip in mainland China, but it was as a result of the push button shank of the locking mechanism which busted and given the state of many of Chinas roads it was inevitable and excusable IMO.
I was riding through a mountain village round a lake when I heard a noise behind me, to see my top box skating on the crap road surface behind me in the side mirrors. Stopped, walked back, lifted box up, all still intact, a few abrasions but otherwise none the worse for wear. I hitched a couple of bungies over the box and was good to go. The constant vibration of the crap road surfaces had slowly but surely caused the locking flange and spring to fail. Had I used a buungy from the get go, it would have been averted.

The black pate yehe omens with it
The actual rack I purchased off of eBay.

The rattle is the case itself on he base plate I think anyway hard to drive and get your ear back there to listen :D
