Hard to Push?

Postby Meat Popsicle » Sat Mar 17, 2012 7:52 07

I wanted to install some farkles on my 650 yesterday, so instead of starting it, i just moved it a few feet by hand. It was really hard to push forward or back. This worried me as I read the tale of woe concerning the parking brake being left on. I put the scoot on the center stand, front rotated easily. but the rear was really hard to rotate. Parking brake was off(whew), nothing binding anywhere, just hard to rotate. I started the engine and revved it up a little to get the rear tire spinning, seemed to spin freely. So I stopped it with my foot and tried to rotate the rear back and forth. Now it rotated easily! Shut off the motor and back to difficult rotation. Is this normal or indicative of a problem?
It is what it is....

There was another thread on this and about do you start your burg before manouvering in and out the garage etc, some said it was easier to manouver engine off some said, including me, engine on. So I think it's normal but others will disagree I'm sure

Yes. the 650 is a bear to maneuver around. That's one of the reasons she is nick named a Lardy, besides the broad looking rear end.

My new 2011 Burgman 650 is very hard to move around with the power off. I suspect it's that complicated rear drive gear set AND the drive belt having to turn all those parts in the drive train. It seems a bit easier if it's warmed up as when returning from a ride.

I have a lift for servicing and I'm sure it will take two people to get it up the ramp and into position, although I haven't tried it yet.

I used to back my 650 into a garage space, up a slight incline. Just couldn't do it with the engine off. I'm hanging out for a reverse gear!!!

Think of it this way...
If you were to put a 200lb man on a wagon and push him, would he be hard or easy to push? Okay, now, what if another 200lb man jumped on the cart? And then another... ???

Okay, you are pushing MORE THAT THAT (about 640lbs) with the Burg 650!!!

She's a BEAST!!! I usually sit on her and push her around with a combination of feet and butt... on FLAT ground... and I weigh 230lbs!!!

(To chime in... I think it's just a bit harder to push her around, especially backwards, when she's cold.)
