I am considering adding a blind spot awareness system to my wife's 400. This is one like on autos which turns on a little LED in the mirror when there is a car in the blind spot.
Does anyone have experience with this vendor or technology on a Burgman?
Here is the one I am thinking of using?

Not seen this on cars over here in the UK and I am a little surprised the company do not give a specification for the detection range other than a 120 degree detection angle. I do like the idea though because when on a road trip with quite a few large capacity motorcycles some can suddenly loom up from behind and overtake when you least expect it. Do they just detect metal ? Otherwise to have sufficient range they would be a right pain if they picked up hedge banks or thinking a little more about the initial suggestion, cars passing on the opposite carriageway approx 4 to 6 feet away.

I often wonder about the preoccupation with mirrors and blind spots. I mean I like gadgets, I really do, but I never make a move without looking over my shoulder (lifesaver) and never would rely on what my mirrors or other gadgets may tell me or more importantly - not tell me.

The Mk1 Eyeball is the best detection system you can get. To me there is a danger of people relying too much on the system telling them that there is a problem, okay until the technology fails. I'm sorry, my detector didn't see you! You would be furious if someone used that as an excuse after hitting you wouldn't you?
Cheers,

As others have stated I was not aware there were any "blindspots" when riding a bike--one of the things I have liked about it for 50+ years...

I have blind spots. Especially with my full face helmet on. My ability to turn my neck and back is extremely limited and any device that would help me "see" more is welcome. I would never go to the extent of those British Modders with a hundred mirrors on my bike but when it comes to awareness and visibility more is better. Just don't rely on them too much and become complacent. Keep us informed how it works out for you if you get one.
