Default best tires for 2007 AN400

It is time to get new tires and I am way behind on what is the best tire for my AN400. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your profile doesn't say where you live, and it makes a difference in this case.

Here's what's on my short list.
1. Dunlop ScootSmart tires. I hope they have them in the USA by the time I need them in a few months. http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.eu/dunlop_e ... tsmart.jsp
2. Michelin Pilot Power Pure SC. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/ ... -Tire.aspx
3. Pirelli Diablo. The first two are brand new tires on the market. The Pirelli is a known...and excellent...quantity.

If you lived in an dry climate, I'd toss in the Avon Viper Stryke. I wonder if the dismal experience I had with it in wet conditions was simply because I inflated it higher than they recommend. It's a tire that is designed to run at lower PSI than the Pirelli Diablo. It'll give you comfort and good traction in dry conditions. Maybe it'll do that in wet conditions too. It does cost more than the #2 and #3 tires above.

Chris is correct (as usual) - a lot depends on where you live.

And - expect all kinds of answers. Tires seem to be a very personal thing.

As for me, I have stayed with the OEM Bridgestone Hoops. Currently, I have 6,200 miles on the rear tire and I have plenty of tread left. I also tend to inflate my tires a little harder than most people do, and that seems to make a difference here in very hot and usually dry South Texas.

As Comanche has said, I use OEM Hoops. Work fine for me and give excellent milage when over inflated from spec.

+1 on the OEM Hoops. I tried the Shinko Tires and initially impressed, but the lifespan was too short and they started cracking.

OEM is my recommendation and I ride the roads of North Texas...

Thank you, all. I live in Portland Oregon and would like to say I stay dry. I must be ready for wet roads. Does that lean toward anyone particular tire? I personally would prefer the tire with the best traction as healing these days takes a little longer. Thank you

Diveguy,

I too am from Portland (Tigard actually) and would second Chris' recommendation for the Pirelli Diablo's. They're what I've been using for the past three years and I think they work better in the wet than the OEM ones. You can get them from Motorcycle Superstore for $55 or so. Both of the west side shops will mount them for you even if you didn't buy them there. I keep mine inflated to about 32 psi which is a bit higher than recommended. PM me if you'd like to get together for a ride some time.

I would also recommend the Diablos as they give me the cheapest cost per mile of usage. As far as riding in the rain Chris knows it real well though

Are the Diablos radial or cross ply? Pirelli's site leads you to believe radial.

Yes...and no.

The sizes for the 650 (and TMax?) are radial and have an "R" in the size. The rest are all bias ply. That may be why the Diablo lasts so much longer on the 400 and doesn't on the 650. Less flex and less heat buildup.
