New to the forum, new owner of a 2012 Burgman 400 and have some questions

Good evening everyone, I have recently acquired my motorcycle license and a 2012 Burgman 400 in white pearl. I have a few questions and maybe some of you can help me out. My Burgman has only about 7000 miles on it and it has already completely worn through a pair of tires. Is that normal for the lifespan of factory tires? I know it is due for an oil change, gear reduction oil change?, spark plug, and coolant change. Does this sound about right for maintaince at this age and mileage? The factory battery has recently gone bad and I have been shopping for new batteries but need to know what specs the battery needs to be and a preferred brand and model number that will fit into the compartment without modification. Thank you for dealing with my newbie needs. Safe travels everyone!

I have a 2012 400 with just under 12,000 miles. Original front tire still has about 2,000 miles left to go. Rear was replaced at 8,000. Original battery is still strong.

Your plug is probably fine. I changed mine at 36k and it still looked serviceable.

This is the battery for the 650, I think it's the same on the 400. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

8k miles is a little low for new tires, but it depends on load. If the prior owner did a lot of two up riding, it's within the range. Try Dunlop Scooterline, they're excellent all round tires. I get around 10-12k miles, front and rear from each one up.

The rest of your maintenance regime sounds good. If you can, when changing the final drive oil, take off the clutch bell (you'll need a holding tool), and give the clutch pads a good deglazing. Just a little sanding with some fine grit paper, a little on the bell surface as well. Blowout all the dust. And You'll be good to go for a while.

Congratulations and welcome to BUSA from sunny Los Angeles.

The battery for the 400 is a different size than the 650. Take a look at www.batterystuff.com. Great website for learning about batteries, solid customer service, fast shipping. Scorpion is their house brand (which I used on my former Burgman without any problems), but their Motocross label is a Yuasa OEM for specialized resellers - that's what I use and recommend (YT12A-BS Motocross).

Christopher Slevin, I'm so Sorry!
Sorry, I can't believe it! I wrote a HUGE response to this, very detailed and somehow it is lost! I addressed all your issues...... I included lots of links!.........I just can't type that all over again. I answered everything you wanted to know in great detail. Woe is me...... I am done.... I am spent...... Sorry........I tried HARD to help you
All about the tires, a Lot about the tires
All about the spark plug
All about the Coolant
All about the CVT
All about the Servicing and Oil and Filter changes
Where to go when you need service, and where not to go
And On and On................................................ .........
What happens is that I spent a LONG time on this message and this THING times me out, logs me out without me realizing it (time flies). After I've got it all typed up, I went to post it and it said I needed to log back in. I log back in and it went to a blank message! I should have copied and pasted it into notepad before I tried to save it, but I forgot, the BANE of the OLD MAN!
i must have spent almost 2 hours on this. BLAST IT!!!
One thing for sure, I AM NOT LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN

Here's a battery for $40.95 + $5 shipping. Stronger that the OEM. OEM is 9 AH, This one is 10AH, 150 CCA.

Thank you all for the replies and the warm welcome! I will definitely be looking for a Yuasa or Yuasa made battery based on your recommendations and I appreciate the part number as well.

Christopher, welcome and congrates on getting one of the best bikes on the market. Have fun!

E.D. that's really annoying! It's happened to me too but as you say, before you log back in copy and paste into notebook or any word processor and you're good.

I have a 2012 400 Burg and I only get 7000 miles out of the rear tire and about 12,000 out of my front before the wear pattern scares me. I have yet to change a plug, brake fluid or coolant in 18,000 miles, nothing, just oil and tires.
Enjoy your 400!

Enjoy your new Burgman! I love mine.

I put a new rear tire on my 2013 B400 in November after accumulating 9,000 miles on the OEM tire. I acquired a Michelin Power Pure SC from Amazon.com for a good price, and it is wearing pretty well so far (3,000 miles). Be aware that the install will probably cost you as much as the tire!

At the rate I'm going, I figure I'll have to replace the rear tire every year and the front every other year.

Some people are like slinkies. They're not very interesting, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

i have a 2012 400 with 61000 miles and still have oem plug and battery, i ride 100 miles a day average, on my last oem tire i got 21000 miles on the front, altho that was unusual, i usually get around 15- to 20000 on front, rear tire is different story, on oem around 9000, i have tried different tires and think the dunlop looks about the best for me, i also have the original brakes and clutch but is getting close to time for new ones, this bike is simply amazing!! welcome to the forum, you can find out how to maintain the bike on this forum by simply asking.
