Stva

So I was reading about the STVA. Mostly on Gixxer sites.
Looks like it gives problems due to soldered connections failing, from vibration.

But is there any periodic maintenance for it? Cleaning the throttle plates? Lube the gears in it? Etc.

Also do the 2007+ AN400 use the paper clip-in-the-connector trick to read stored codes?

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Darn sure you know what it is. ......It is the BANE of the Burgman 400. Of all things this is the ONE thing for sure that the 400 DOES NOT NEED.....BUT don't get me started!
Secondary Throttle Valve Actuator.........It is a motor....a stepper computer motor......And it connects to the ECM with 4 wires, 2 wires turn it in one direction and the other 2 wires turn it in the other direction. It is geared to the SECONDARY THROTTLE VALVE, AND MOVES it to a designated position. It is an OUTPUT DEVICE as the ECM causes it to move to a certain position, according to the inputs that the ECM receives. The ECM uses all its inputs to calculate where the Actuator Motor and the Secondary throttle valve should be at any given instant.
The wires breaking is NOT the problem with these, as these wires are well soldered to the PCB and the wires are flexible and don't break. Not quite the same problem as the Gixxer's. On the Burgman, the motor just starts to screw up and not follow directions from the ECM.
It works great until it screws up, then it gives you a hard time if you try diagnosing it, until you finally just replace the entire throttle body, which is what I did. Then it works just fine, until one day comes that it won't!
Dave, How do you take your STVA? Like my coffee or like my women, Hot, White & Sweet!

I think the FI light comes on when the STVA eats it. Might also throw a C28 code.

Hence my question, can you do the paper clip trick to read codes on the AN400?
Is there any maintenance for the mysterious STVA?

I read one thread, the STVA helps the engine when you suddenly open the throttle a lot. It helps get rid of that momentary flat spot. Possibly.

But others wire it open when it fails. (In AL, we don't have the dreaded inspections to worry about.)

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.
