What's with the crappy glue on StreetGlo?!

I recently applied some StreetGlo "Magic Black" strips and all of the edges are coming unglued. I never had this problem with older StreetGlo tape and am disappointed. I have a sheet of the genuine 3M "Black/white at night" reflective tape and will be replacing the StreetGlo stuff soon.

Have you contacted Streetglo to see what they say?

Those Black Magic strips are 3M. Anyway, I hope I don't end up having the same problem, because I just put it on my Burg too.

Re: What's with the crappy glue on StreetGlo?!

You are correct. I checked the backing. Even though "3M" is missing, the rest of the text is the same as the 3M sheet that I have. Maybe a bad set of horses at the glue factory! This started within a few days of my putting the tape on 3 weeks ago.

Waiting to hear back from Streetglo about the problem.

Was the surface you're putting it on waxed?

How do you clean the wax off of the bike when applying streetglo tape, I wax my bike every week or two and just ordered some tape and the helmet decal kit.

Prep-all is the best product there is for removing wax and grease, with no possibility of damaging the paint...

Ron, This is Bill with Streetglo. I know this is a very late reply but I stumbled onto this post just now. I don't recall you writing to us but FYI, there have been no batches of bad adhesive that I'm aware of. We fabricate our products from massive large rolls and any problem would affect thousands of decals making it pretty sure I would know about a problem.

THere was some contamination between your bike and your decal. Wax doesn't completely contaminate it most of the time but wax haze will, so will body and hand oils, Or some other kind of oil.

It is late and long after you posted this, but I will replace your product as a free exchange. While I don't think it was bad we do work with customers that have application problems much the same. Just let me know at www.streetglo.net.

I've always used isopropyl 99% alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean any surfaces of contaminants, wax, etc., before applying any peel and stick product.

Also helps if the surface is warm.
A warm sunny day is ideal, or use a hair dryer to warm up the surface(s) before applying tape.

Even plain 70% isopropyl alcohol works fine to remove wax and get a good bond... Just allow s couple minutes for all the moisture to evaporate before applying the decal.
