They were standard at one time, not sure when they cutoff. But just like the '14 650, Suzuki stopped including backrests on the 400 for '07 on.

Fantastic article and great pics. Can you tell me where you purchased your backrest from and the manufacturer. There seems to be a few out there and none of the ones I see talk about coming with the new trim pieces you show.

I have a 2011 white one that I am willing to trade for the white cover piece that replaces the passenger backrest...

If you ride with hi vis gear, and do NOT ride with a passenger....give some thought to leaving off the back rest - it blocks a lot of your hi vis gear from sight of following cars.
Also hooks your feet when mounting or, worse, dismounting.
I put mine back in the box until wife makes up her mind.

What! Your feet should normally go through the step through in front of the seat. You must be trying to mount/unmount it like a motorcycle. I think that most of us bought a scooter for the reason that we can't raise our leg over the seat. I know I did.
