Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

SCTR,

Thanks for taking the time to post a great article. I just bought a used Burgman 400 and used your instructions to change the oil and filter. I bought the filter and O rings at my local Suzuki dealer for about $12.00 including sales tax. It took me about 45 minutes to do it including putting the tools away, etc. The next time I bet it will be no more than 30 minutes. Again, thanks.

Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

To save some travel time, I went to my local auto parts store (O'Reilly) and asked if they sold motorcycle parts, specifically a 2008 Burgman 400. They said they could get me an oil filter, but not the air filter. I picked up the oil filter today (about $10). It's made by Wix, part # 24949. The Wix website states it fits Burgman 400s up to '07. I'm assuming that would really include '08 also. The box I got at O'Reilly's came with a large o-ring. I looked it up when I got home and the picture on the following site shows it with both the large and small O-ring. http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,39,24949 If I can get O'Reilly's to get me a box with both o-rings, I think this would be a good deal, since the Wix filters are probably better quality than Suzuki's. If both o-rings are actually included with the Wix filters, it might help others out since it would save a trip to the dealer or save with online shipping costs. I'll follow up once I find out.

Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

Well, I learned some more. The part # PS4949 is from NAPA and part # 24949 is from Wix. They are virtually the same filter. They both do NOT fit a 2007, 2008, or 2009 Burgman 400. This was deceiving since the Wix website does list their filter as fitting an '07 B400. I've written to them to have it corrected. Looks like I'm traveling to the dealer for the parts or paying shipping charges.

Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

Correct me if I'm wrong but in the past I never changed the O rings when changing oil or filters on any of my rice burners.... not that it isn't a good idea.....but if they are not damaged I don't see any reason to.......

Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

How about the torque settings for the screws and the plug?

I think I read somewhere that the drain plug is tightend with 23 Nm.
How about the three small screws on the oil filter cover?

And is there a seal ring (copper?) on the drain plug which has to be replaced as well?

Thanks

Re: Burgman 400 Oil change PDF

Great post and thread - worked like a charm!
The nuts on the oil filter cover are 8mm in case anyone is curious.

Definitely a 30 minute job - not technically difficult but can be messy. My young son thought it was hilarious how fast the oil comes out.
