I didn't know that American use of chippy (honest officer)
I must mix in the wrong wrong circles

The urban dictionary entries sound American to an English ear.
We never say "downtown" (or uptown, or "x blocks away"). Most of our roads are very old and higgledy piggledy, not laid out on regular grids a block could be any length.

We have picked up a lot of americanisms but those wouldn't mean anything

Septic for septic tank/yank is just as described but rhyming slang but I hadn't heard the finance connection. More likely to hear it from ex-military where I am.
Rhyming slang is often described as an East London phenomena (what we know as Cockney rhyming slang) but other regions use their own.
Where I am anything not very good is "bobbins" for bobbins and cotton - rotten (old textile producing area)

Rhyming slang is supposed to have come about to exclude outsiders from following what is being said, particularly officials of the law - I don't know how true that is

Confirms my suspicion that you're a 'high-class chippy' kind of guy*.

*guy - archaic American for 'bloke' or 'mate'. Supplanted by 'dude' (which can now apparently mean a 'chick' too) or 'bro' (or 'brah' for those who find 'bro' too much of a strain).

***

Bonus translation for American fans of 'Seinfeld': bang tidy = sponge-worthy (from the female viewpoint)

Guy*
A scarecrow type figure traditionally burned on top of a bonfire on November 5th.

Commemorating the failed gunpowder plot to blow up parliament in 1605.
Guido (Guy) Fawkes was one of the plotters left to light the fuse and was really, really horrifically put to death.
"Bonfire night surplanted an existing pagan festival so conveniently Christianised it.

Dude*
Where you draw the line if you have an English accent

Bro*
Only used by young people who mysteriously speak with American gangsta accents even though they have never been outside of Deptford and prefer music with no discernible melody.

Luckydave, my sister lives in Liverpool. Really friendly people, the Scousers are, some of the friendliest she's met--anywhere, ever. Funny though, how when I mention to my British friends that she lives up there, most give a scowl or a look like they're about to offer me condolences. Maybe it has to do with footie (soccer for us Yanks) rivalries? I hope to go visit her sometime this year if I can. It'd be my first time to the UK and i'd like to cram in as much as I can.

Despite her preference for the weather when she lived in Madrid, Spain, her experiences in Northern England have been great, especially with the people around her, and job opportunities are far better, so I've encouraged her to stay put, even though the N UK weather has been somewhat harder on her.

I think it's great to see our English speaking brothers from the UK, OZ even South Africa on this forum, as the variety makes even seemingly mundane mechanical scooter discussions that much more enjoyable. Vive la différence.
