thanks guys. I'm evaluating if I can camp along the way, would you recommend any book about the geography, animals and dangers from coast to coast?

down here we're very fortunate, we dont have anything that can kill you while camping but earthquakes and wildfires.

would you recommend any book? need to start studying it

thank you

Just keep in mind that the interstates are all about putting miles behind you ASAP and not Beijing scenic. But they are much better up kept so you can high speed cruze. The smaller roads are much more scenic but not as well maintained and for a two wheeler, they are more dangerous and slower. Be careful on them. Just FYI.. HAVE A GREAT TRIP AND KEEP US INFORMED!

Common sense, the least common of the senses.

In every state they have brochures and flyers of scenic spots. If you contact the states tourism office and ask for them to send them to you they may, or give you a web page to view.

Fernando, I just got back from a 5200 mile trip out to the coast from central Tennessee on I-10 and I-40 in a car. Sorry to say that the trip from Arkansas to Los Angeles is very boring and not much of a ride if you stay on the interstate. Definitely follow the advice given here on the forum and try to stay off of I-10 and I-40 out west. Don't pass up Carlsbad caverns in southern New Mexico if you go that way, or Sedona AZ. Check out the parks in Utah if going the northern route. To bad you weren't coming up as far as Tennessee I would put you up at my place. Have a great trip.

If you are going to do Route 66, might I suggest you head up to Edmond, OK to see the POPS restaurant and from there you can take Route 66 out East to Amarillo.

thanks for the advice John. I actually may ride up to Deal's Gap. I'll be updating this post as I get close to the date of departure.

My plan is stay off the Interstate as much as I can, I may go ride some parts of historic 66 but at this point I'm not thinking of a route anymore but landmarks and whatever happens when I land there I'll be deciding the best route based on the time available.

Deals Gap, North Carolina
New Orleans, Louisiana (French Quarter)
Mount Rushmore, Keystone, South Dakota
Taos, New Mexico
off the original "course" but I'd like to visit if Im around:
Carlsbad Caverns, new mexico ** south
Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah **north
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming ** north

Mesa Verde National Park,Colorado
Grand Canyon, Arizona
Las Vegas, Nevada
Palm Springs-Big Sur and another places if I have time left, California
