Statins are not necessary in most all cases. They are marked by big pharma as an easy way to make lots of money. If you eat lots of good fat ie:avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, salmon oil etc then you will be just fine as long as it is not in the context of sugar and refined starches. Read the best book for your health by Dr. Hyman called 'Eat fat get thin' . He's the head of the Cleveland clinic on nutrition. I just started doing it 1 month ago and I feel great and it's easy to follow wth good whole food etc. There's no discussion or debate about this. Just do it, it's the only way to go. Not only will it add years to your life but it aidd add life to your years!

and you'll get even less credible information than googling motorcycles will kill you.

what does the science say on statins..

Quote:
Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Elevated blood lipids may be a major risk factor for CVD. Due to consistent and robust association of higher low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels with CVD across experimental and epidemiologic studies, therapeutic strategies to decrease risk have focused on LDL-cholesterol reduction as the primary goal. Current medication options for lipid-lowering therapy include statins, bile acid sequestrants, a cholesterol-absorption inhibitor, fibrates, nicotinic acid, and omega-3 fatty acids, which all have various mechanisms of action and pharmacokinetic properties.

The most widely prescribed lipid-lowering agents are the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, or statins. Since their introduction in the 1980s, statins have emerged as the one of the best-selling medication classes to date, with numerous trials demonstrating powerful efficacy in preventing cardiovascular outcomes (Kapur and Musunuru, 2008 [1]).
The statins are commonly used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. This chapter focuses on the biochemistry of statins including their structures, pharmacokinetics, and mechanism of actions as well as the potential adverse reactions linked to their clinical uses.

Of course if you take enough dihydrogen monoxide that'll do you in too. ...tho it is essential in correct doses. Why I bet there is a dozen threads on it.

Thanks a lot fellas, this is some good info.
E.D. , do yourself a BIG favor and quit taking them . Then record the date you quit and keep a diary on how you feel every day or week after you get off of them . Hopefully you haven't done any permanent damage like many have . Please keep us informed as to your progress .

It's on the Internet -- teach the controversy!

Thousands of American men suffer from DHMO Insufficiency Syndrome at some point in their lives. There is hope for relief from this under-discussed problem. Please call for our free booklet and DVD for more information. There is no cost to you, and operators are standing by.

Then ask your doctor if Evianฎ is right for you.

Thanks Reaper, I quit yesterday, Fathers Day, how appropriate. It's Monday night and I'm staring at 2 pills laying here in front of me, Sundays and Mondays pills. I am going to keep piling these pills up and I am going to get in to see my doc soon as I can. But may take a while, because their always booked. I guess they stay booked with all these people they got on these darn pills! Maybe I could be called the Pill Piler? I am keeping a daily log in my pocket calendar. Thanks again.

Good for you and please keep that diary , also don't be surprised if your doctor tries to talk you into getting back on the statins . It is as if the doctors have been brain washed by the drug companies , in spite of all the information to the harmful effects and the lack of evidence of any actual efficacy that statins prolong life . Just look at the statements made here on this thread , and that will tell you these drugs are poison . I read a while back that there is more evidence that statins causes dementia than prolongs life by lowering cholesterol .

What a load of bollocks....I posted a 20 year study that shows a 18-35 % drop in heart disease and you ignore it for your snake oil salesmen....

One born every minute....

If you ratios are stable then have the doc drop the dose level....40 mg is a lot unless you have active heart problems and if someone does Reaper.....and you convince them to stop .....how are you going to feel.......

Your sources are the worst possible snake oil shite and you are out there shilling it.......
