I've got a '12 400 that I replaced the seat light to an led. It went from being useless to useful. With the old bulb in it, it was so dim and made so much heat I thought it would melt the cover. Replaced it with an extra led bulb I used for the dome light in my car. Made a huge difference and no heat now. Got a 10 pack off of ebay for less than what the auto parts places want for a single. They're cheap, and one already went bad in the car, but I have a bunch left.
If you just want to disable the light, there's no reason to take panels off the bike. Just pop the cover off the light and pull the bulb out [in my 400, not sure if the 200 is different]. Without a bulb, circuit isn't complete, so the battery won't drain when the seat is open.
