Primary pulley stopper bolt

I just got an 05' 650 w/400 miles. I here the stopper bolt is a potential problem. How do you insure you get the new hardened bolt? Do you need to apply the parking brake when changing out the bolt? Are there any other precautions in changing it? (Riding year round in S. Texas).

Re: Primary pulley stopper bolt

I ordered a few of them to make the ordering process worthwhile. I have an 06 AN650 and when I changed the bolt out last year (probably 14-15K miles), it showed very VERY little wear.

Re: Primary pulley stopper bolt

I replaced the stopper bolt for the first time yesterday, at c. 32,000 miles. Thanks for the BKB link, Kory, and the DIY page, LeDude. I had the bike on the centerstand, with the parking brake on and the rear-brake lever bungeed tight.
