It is VERY preliminary, and I have a lot of things to look at, but right now, I'm strongly considering shipping my TMAX to the Isle of Man for the TT next summer (:

Really enjoyed reading the highs and lows of your trip AG thanks for sharing. Not one complaint of aches or pains either I had to stop after just 100 miles to give my hand and backside a rest! Booking the ferry to the Isle of Man needs to be done way in advance (ferry back is harder to book than going there unless you stay a week or so after the race is finished) probably cheaper to buy a bike here than ship one over from the US and back too.

I seem to recall that AlaskaGuy had an 'eventful' trip to Labrador last year. Batten down the hatches UK, it looks like he's coming your way!

Well, technically, IOM isn't part of the U.K., only a crown dependency. It just has its foreign policy and defense outsourced to it (;

Great trip report! Thanks for taking the time to type that all out and share it with the rest of us. Your experiences give me a good reality check for my first long trip in September from San Diego to Vancouver and back. Furthest I've driven in a day is 360 miles and I think I would like to keep that as about the max in order to stop and smell the roses a bit.

you are welcome (:

On the trip you describe, the only reasonable route for you to take is of course the PCH. By its nature, that will be slow going but well worth it. I'd definitely take my time. Make sure you stop at the sand dunes park in Oregon, it's certainly more fun than I would have guessed.

Good luck!

Actually we plan to take 395 up to Tahoe and they Hwy 89 to Lassen. Then up through John Day Oregon area and on up through Washington. We will cross over into BC and make a left towards Vancouver. Ferry over to the island and another ferry from Victoria down to Port Angeles WA. THEN down the coast we go. Wind at our backs! We have three weeks. All routes negotiable.

Not sure where you are staying in Tahoe, but I recommend picking up Hwy 89 at 395. You will ride over the stunning Monitor Pass and the gorgeous Sierras and will be delivered (after a stretch break in Markleeville) to the lake at So. Lake Tahoe. (Or, after Markleeville, you could take 88 and drop back down to 395 if you want to take a more northern road to the lake).

89 North out of Truckee through Lassen is simply beautiful.

I've been as far North as Mt. Shasta, and hope to make it to Portland next summer.
