More information may come, once they trust the site. It could be a targeted ad issue or privacy in general.
I lie about my location, education and age on facebook, and block as much info as possible. My friends know who I am, the advertisers and snoopers don't need to know.
Privacy is becoming a precious commodity, and like personal time, I protect it.
Yes Jim, privacy is needed, but as others have brought out, how does city, state or country compromise that? Wouldn't it help in their search for answers to things about the bike (sales, parts, models, repair centers) that are different from region to region. And as noted earlier, many here give out information that could be considered far mar more sensitive than general city location, like their birth year right inside their username or by participating in one of our age polls, etc.
And then there is the courtesy point brought up about a decent polite introduction versus starting membership with a problem question.
Anyway, again the initial post by me reiterated that while it should never be obligatory, it would be nice if the membership sign up software would "prompt" or strongly encourage one to fill out a profile. Without that, there may be some who, actually might be inclined to do so, but just didn't think about it, not necessarily omitting the details on any principle. Have some prompts or encouragement in the process and you might have some extra who would gladly comply. While we shouldn't know everyone's business, more details when you meet someone new adds to further group solidarity, doesn't it?
