Looking for affordable intercom system.

Hello friends,

I'm searching online for intercom system for communication between me and my friend, we started to do some trips on our bikes and we found our selfs shouting in order to talk to each other. I need a system that can cover a 500 to 1000 meter of distance easily and can be used with mobile phones as well so we could answer our phone calls or listen to audio tracks. So which system do you guys use when riding with motorcycle group? I know the sena systems but they are expensive, is there another affordable option without compromising the product quality?

Thank you in advance.

Hmm think'n that's a "No" so far.
Did some digging myself a while back & came to the conclusion that, if you're lucky, you get what you pay for on those.
Hopefully someone who actually knows the topic will chime in at some point.

I just got my new SENA SMH5-FM's in this week. They are for intercom and music. I got two of them to use for my trip that I am planning for this summer. They run about $115 to $120 EACH on amazon.com. I thought that was a fairly good deal. It depends on how much you want to spend. I have not unboxed them yet, been very busy with my new to me 06' 650 and then being busy getting ready to sell the 400. So I may get around to unboxing them in a few weeks. I will let you know how they do. I spent about $250 for these two SENAs, what kind of budget numbers are you looking at?

I have never used one of these systems before. As to my understanding the sena is the a quality product as this is what i know from the Internet. Just would like to know if there is another product that gives the same options if not more for the same price of the sena or less without compromising quality.
If the sena is the only option that gives quality over other products then i will buy it, otherwise i just don't want to be hurry and see what are the other products in the market.

My wife and I have the SENA SMH-5s. We've been very happy with them; my biggest complaint is sometimes they take a few minutes for the intercom on the units to sync up. They are strictly line of sight; (I'd guess a little over quarter of a mile range because they start getting staticy) but they sync up well with iphones and droids. They are plenty loud and their noise-canceling absolutely amazes me; we were both riding with our visor up yesterday and had no problems understanding and hearing one another. I think I gave about $225 for a set of them a couple of years ago.

I know there are other models of SENA and several other brands of intercom out there, but I really like the SMH-5s.

These also intrigue me; http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...ar-amp-review/ but all I know about them is from reviews.

I have used both Cardo Scala (I liked the older Q1, did not like the newer Q2) I now use the Sena 10S which I'm very happy with and would recommend. It's price seems to be in the upper-mid range of models. (I paid about $300 for the pair in their "Dual" packaging). Suggest you look at webbikeworld.com comprehensive reviews of many makes & models.

I hear U-Clear makes a nice, lower cost product, but I have no first-hand knowledge.
