I use a couple of the RAM BALL TILTING CUPHOLDERS, and couple of 16 oz cups with a coffee lid an each one (one for me and one for the pillion). I could use bottles, but the cups are much more convenient, because you can grab the cup with one hand and sip the water with the lid still on.
Cheers!
I love my RAM mounts but need to offer up a caution.
My RAM tilting cupholder vibrated apart where the ball is screwed into the gimbal frame. Upon really close inspection there was no evidence of Loctite Blue in the female threads. I guess the factory missed mine or was really stingy on the Loctite.
I'd highly recommend removing the screw and using Loctite Blue (and letting it set) before I'd trust it for heavy (500ml or more) weight and long distances.
Ever since I loctite'd it things have been fine. Thousands of km's with a 500ml bottle in there and no issues.
Yes, I use the frozen water bottle trick myself and store it in the trunk. But what to do during the ride? Long lasting mints. Pop one in my mouth before a ride section, they last about an hour, keep the breath fresh and my mouth sufficiently moist. Water at the stops. A side benefit is it keeps the bathroom breaks to a minimum.
Mine is a modified marine folding unit (WalMart). Open the glove box and hang it on the top lip. Close the box and it stays locked in although I can slide it from side to side. When not in use it folds up and is stored in the glove box.
I use a "pouch" that delivery people use to hold their PDT (Portable Data Terminal). It's on a belt with a fastex buckle looped up around my handlebars. Now I do ride bare-bar without the handlebar cover because I also use SW-Motech bar-back's to move my handlebars higher and further back (towards me). With the bar-backs it looked silly with the handle bar cover raised up above the dash.
Into the pouch I keep a Thermos insulated water bottle so I have ice-water all day. On day-long rides I'll throw a soft-side cooler with some frozen water bottles into my sidecase so I can top up the water bottle at any time.
Been using this rig for years now and find it very convenient.
Tic-Tacs you don't have to unrap them. Just tilt the box and pop a couple in. Stick one behind each cheek ride on without any feeling of thirst for 30+ minutes. Ps do not chew or they won't last. ?
