front fork oil 650

Hi all, My bike is 2014 650 with 1100 thousand miles on the clock, How do I know when to change the front fork oil, In the owners manual it just says to inspect at 7500 miles, what am I to look out for, because I cannot feel any difference in the suspension since it was new, (And if I need to change the oil what oil is recommended), But I must say that since I have had the bike the suspension feels like I have no suspension when hitting pot holes in the road, It feels very hard.

This past weekend I installed RaceTech springs and emulators in my 2013 Burgman's forks. I also used 15w fork oil. I did this because with just my 255 pound self sitting on the stationary bike, the front forks compressed/sagged 57mm of the total 109mm travel that's available. With only 2 inches/52mm of suspension travel remaining, it made for a harsh ride and the forks easily bottomed out when braking.

Now with the heavier 1.0kg non-progressive RaceTech springs, and the emulators installed, the forks now have 36mm of sag with me sitting on the stationary bike. I have yet to bottom out the suspension and the ride is better. It not like riding one of my BMWs with their Ohlins and Wilbers after market front and rear shocks, or my Triumph Trophy SE, but the Burgman does rides better than it did before.

How much do you weigh?

When I started my loooong journey with suspension my first change was front springs out with OEM in with Ikon 500-030 my oil was 350ml ish in each leg, early and later model manuals have varying volumes/levels, 460ml for later models & 482ml for earlier models.

If your oil is low like mine there's no hydraulic compression to help bottoming out, you get metal to metal.

My OEM springs had 67mm (from memory) sag with me on board after a far bit of mucking around I'm around 33mm now.
