Mouse nest...

I noted that the Burgman was a little slow off the mark in Power mode... Thinking it was time to change the air filter, I found a mess... A mouse had built a nest to winter in on top of the air filter... 3 hours later, I got all the tupperware off and cleaned out the mess. None went into the intake box, though some scraps were in the connecting tube. There WILL be a wire screen covering that opening... I'd recommend it to any climate that hibernates rodents.

Critters got into the engine bay of my 650, chewed up the wire harness real good. The bike wouldn't start. Took me a month to figure it out.

Beware of those little teeth.

You are fortunate that they didn't build the nest inside the CVT . I saw one where they did , the CVT was stuffed with nesting material that looked like insulation bits . The baby mice urinated in the nest and the urine destroyed both pulley faces with corrosion . One inmate here had an acorn or acorns basically total his bike .

When I did the first service on my second 2008 at 305 miles I found the air filter full of cherry pits and POOP. The problem is the intake is above the filter element and the outlet is below so when you pull the air filter, everything loose above falls DOWN into the air box and throttle bodies.

I learned of another method when I bought a fold down (pop-up) camper. Fellow campers would use Irish Spring bar soap of drier sheets. I also used them in the intake openings of winter stored vehicles. The little critters, even spiders, find them both repulsive. In the camper and cars I put half a bar of Irish Spring in a small containers from the delicatessen with holes punched in the lids. The drier sheets can be just placed near openings.
Unfortunately this didn't work for my truck. They ate the wiring harness for the multi-port fuel injection.

Manley, Yes. But those must have been lady mice and they liked it too.
