I have not started my 2009 Burgman Exe in 8-12 months and went outside last night and installed the battery and when I tried to start it the only thing that happen was the headlights turned off and the engine did NOT turn over. I check the brake handle micro switches, the kick stand switches, the red thumb switch, etc and still nothing. Any ideas. Thanks
No Check showing on the dash? Rear brake applied ? FI light off? does it have an alarm fitted? Did the Clocks cycle through and fuel pump prime. Good connections on Battery? All fuses sound?
you may want to disconnect and reconnect the battery by attaching the (+) terminal first and then the (-) ground.
not sure why but that's what service manual suggests.
I would also disconnect any add-ons until the bike fires up and runs.
I am guessing that the battery is in good working order and can hold a charge.
From what you are describing it sounds like either the battery or the battery connections. Go back and make sure you hooked the battery up right. If so have the battery tested to see if it is good.
Thanks for all the tip. Most of everything mentioned in the last few post were already looked at and the battery came straight out of my other burgman that starts right up and runs great. I will try to disconnect the battery and reconnect it tonight. Thank again
If that does not work, try shorting across the post on the starter relay. If the engine turns over then your problem is somewhere in the starter switch circuit.
It was uncovered and sitting in the weather the entire time and only protected buy the factory plastics and there does not appear to be any signs of rodents or rodent damage (but lots of spiders were in and on it). I will try contacting the starter wire to see if that starts it up. thanks again for the help.
Boozer, I would look real hard at the battery. My buddies 06 650 did the same thing except it happened overnight. Original battery died, same symptoms as yours, headlights go out when the starter button depressed and no engine turn over. We checked the battery voltage and it was at 12 volts, the battery really needs to be closer to 12.5 or better, but as soon as you put a load on it ( i.e. the starter motor) the voltage dropped to 10 volts. Just my two cents, hope that helps.
Well thanks for all the tips. Today I took the starter button apart and clean the contacts and that solve my problem so must have been the year or more of sitting out in the weather that got to the contacts in the starter button. Thanks again for all the input.
