Introduction
So, I have a Garmin Nüvi 2595 - updated with the lastest map and unit software. I also have the most recent version of Basecamp and Garmin Express on my Mac. All of this stuff has been nothing but endless frustration with respect to defining a route on the computer, uploading it to the Garmin, and then having it follow the defined route. I'm hoping I can tap into a higher power on here that knows the secret to doing this without wanting to beat the **** out of expensive electronics. As it is, I find all of these "features" worthless because it just does not work, after spending HOURS trying to define the route I want, I just give up and go with "well, that's close enough I guess".
Defining The Route
I'd like to be able to define two (or more) points by address, put them in, and have it make a route. I get Basecamp to do this just fine. But then I'd like to be able to alter the route it gives me by dragging the route around, so I can use back roads and such, rather than the fastest possible route. I can do this too, but then it does CRAZY stuff to the route - looping back on itself and other stuff. I want it to work just like you can do in Google Maps, which at least semi-intelligently moves the route around. I have tried all kinds of stuff in Basecamp and all I have managed to do is convince myself that it is absolutely the worst software ever written. It would be REALLY NICE if I could somehow tell it "Take US22 until SR667" and then just have it route that, rather than having draw it (which never works for various reasons).
Uploading The Route
I can usually make a route upload, but it sometimes is a pain in the ass. Probably because by the time I get to this point, I am so pissed off I can't see straight.
Following The Route
It doesn't matter what the route I defined says. The stupid GPS just puts me on the interstate anyway. I select the route from Trip Planner on the GPS and it may as well say, "I do not care what your route is, you're going to go how I want you to go". There really seems to be no purpose at all to defining a route from what I can tell.
Anyway......if anyone knows the secret voodoo here, I'd love to be clued in.
